GolfSmith Deal on TaylorMade Penta
GolfSmith is offering a deal on the TaylorMade Penta: Buy 2 dozen, get 1 dozen free.
The TaylorMade Penta TP Golf Ball is the first 5-layer tour ball. Each layer is designed to provide optimal performance on every shot. It has the benefits of the TP Black and the TP Red in one ball. This ball is long off every club, has increased short game spin and controlled launch and spin off irons. The Penta is engineered for Tour professionals but is playable for everyone! Additional Features: A urethane cover provides softer feel and a higher spin rate on critical wedge shots within 100 yards The outer mantle delivers optimum spin off short irons to stop the ball quickly on the green without sacrificing distance The middle mantle increases control with mid irons and helps prevent up-shooting, ballooning and falling short of the target The inner mantle promotes a soft feel, a high launch and low spin off long iron shots for incredible distance The core produces faster ball speed, high launch and low spin off driver shots for maximum carry and distance
If anyone out there has tried these, I’d like to know how it plays.

BTW- New ball for me. after getting all stuck on Yellow with the Bridgestone E6 - Bridgestone went and changed it with the Top Flite Dimple-in-Dimple technology- and I think they messed up that ball, hopefully they will go back.
So I went searching for a new Yellow. Srixon has offering cheaper than the Z-Star, but I really didn’t like the Tri-speed the last time I tried it, but as I passed by Nike, I saw a yellow box. The Nike PD Long Yellow- $15.99.
I played the Ignite a while back, and settled on the HX-Hot - and the last time I played a Nike One it seemed hard to me. The PD line I moved past long ago moving up to the 3-layers.
But I find myself really liking these PD Long Yellows. They are more susceptible to draw/fade than the E6 as you would expect, but like their name says they are LONG. I can’t see getting any more distance out of a HX-Hot.
They won’t grab a green though. Like the HX-Hot, they will roll out.
I am so happy I have found a sub-$20 ball I like and play well with. Pretty much guarantees that Nike will cancel them after one year and leave me in search again, but for now I am good.

Our local mega retailer, Meijer (sort of like a Super Wal-Mart), had a deal on the Nike One Vapor, where if you bought two, it came out to less than $20 a dozen. I got them to try out.
Still like the Snake Eyes better.

Love these Pentas! I got in the 6-ball test giveaway (don’t know if they’re still doing it, but here’s the URL - http://www.taylormadegolf.com/testpenta).
Anyway, comparing them to my ‘recycled’ Pro V1’s, I would say they are a little longer off the tee when I’ve compared them. I don’t notice much difference with the irons though, distance-wise. They are spinny little suckers. Great at holding greens on shorter irons and wedge shots. At least as good as the Pro V1’s.
On the green, they are really soft off the putter and I love the feel of them.
The big thing about them, though, is how durable they seem to be. I haven’t hit anything traumatic with them yet, but I have some friends who have hit cart paths and even brick fences and they’ve come away with hardly a scuff. Pretty amazing.
