Golf’s Iron Man

June 24, 2005

The Champions Tour doesn’t get a lot of press, so it’s not surprising if you haven’t heard of Dana Quigley.

But you should have. This week, the guy is making his 262nd consecutive start on the Champions Tour. That’s an amazing number.

But he’s also been playing very well recently:

After winning $761,200 in the last six Champions Tour events, and finishing no lower than seventh in that stretch, Quigley is sitting pretty atop the Tour’s money list with $1,253,447 after posting victories in the season-opening MasterCard Championship in Hawaii Jan. 23 (in a playoff over Tom Watson) and in the rain-shortened, 36-hole Bayer Advantage Classic June 12 in Overland Park, Kan., where he sank an 11-foot birdie putt to win a one-hole playoff over Watson and Gil Morgan.

The Champions Tour needs to do a lot more to promote these kind of stories. With the loss of the starpoer of the guys who launched the tour, they have to do something.
