Golf Mind Factor Site Review

Golf Mind Factor Video Lessons and Forums

New York Yankees Hall of Famer Yogi Berra said: “Baseball is 90 percent mental and the other half is physical.”

A similar thing could also be said about the game of golf. While having great physical skills can certainly take you a long way on the course, the mental game can be just as vital. You can see the effects of this in many tournaments where players inexplicably start spraying shots all over the course. Their skills haven’t suddenly abandoned them; their mental focus has. The poster child for this might be Phil Mickelson; his signature breakdown being the 2006 US Open.

For amateurs, I’ve always had a sense that the mental game may be even more important than it is to professionals. Given my limited set of physical skills, I’ve found that having the discipline to make good decisions; the fortitude to stay on an even keel; and the focus to maintain swing consistency makes as much as a ten stroke difference in any given round.

There’s also this: in spite of all of the improvements in club and ball design, and in swing coaching, the average score remains today what it was forty years ago: 100.

Professionals can afford to hire expensive “mental coaches” to improve their game. The rest of us must rely on books and cds from the likes of Bob Rotella, Harvey Penick, and others.

But now social networking on the internet give us access to golf experts on a scale never before possible. At the Golf Mind Factor site, players can subscribe to a service that offers not only online mental golf video lessons, but also access to Karl Morris, a mental golf coach who has worked with some of the biggest names in European golf, including Graeme McDowell, Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Paul McGinley, David Howell, Phil Archer, Richard Finch, Alison Nicholas and Trish Johnson. Karl has also worked with top class amateurs, including numerous Walker Cup and Curtis Cup players.

After signing up for the site, I found four good lessons from Karl Morris on Effective Training for Mind and Body, Building an Effective Pre Shot Routine, Building Mental Resilience and How To Think Like A Pro. Each of these has multiple videos explaining the concepts. Some are not particularly useful; others are more so.

One useful tip I picked up for the preshot routine: establish in your mind an actual, physical zone around the ball. The area outside this zone is the “thinking zone.” Here’s where you do all of the typical preshot thinking and worrying. Once you step inside the “playing zone,” however, you must restrict yourself to focusing on the target.

A perhaps more useful feature might be the forums. Here, members are supposed to be able to post questions and have the experts, such as Karl Morris answer. Unfortunately, the forums at this point are pretty bare. That should improve as the site gains more members, and in turn, this should build up a useful archive of information.

The program is not cheap as there’s an initial signup fee of $57, followed by a $19 monthly fee. For the videos themselves, that likely would be far too much. But if you are one who intends to utilize the access to the mental coaches on an ongoing basis, it’s got to be much cheaper than hiring your own guru.

Note: This has been a sponsored post. Access to the program was provided gratis to the reviewer, but the content is entirely original and unedited.
