Golf Games: Progressive

September 14, 2011

Progressive is a good team competition game for outings. Each plays his own ball, and on the first six holes, the best score of the four is recorded. On the second six, the two best scores are recorded. The three best are recorded on the final six.

I like this format because it allows a strong player to give his team a good start but requires the others to carry their weight as the round wears on.

The format also suggests a lot of variants, such as: best ball on the first five; two best on six through ten; three best on eleven through 15; and all four on the final three holes.

Or, in a shotgun start, particular holes are designated for best, best two or best three.
