Golf Games: Flags, Tombstones or End of the Line

November 10, 2010

Flags is a bit of golf scoring in reverse. Instead of playing a round and adding up the strokes, you start with a set number of strokes and play until you run out. The golfer who makes it furthest, wins.

When played with several groups, each player is issued a flag to mark his exit from the game—hence the name. The flag also might be known as the person’s tombstone.

I have this great vision of a Halloween tournament where every player is literally issued a tombstone with his or her name on it.
