Z TECH 16 Silver Retriever

Z TECH 16 Silver Retriever

If you ask me, golf ball retrievers should be banned from the course. While I sympathize with people who don’t want to lose a three or four dollar ball in a water hazard, there are just too many old retired guys wasting time retrieving ball after ball from the drink.

  • As I lose very few balls these days to the drink, and the ones that I do are rarely retrievable, I mostly agree with you on this.  What should happen though is tougher enforcement by the marshalls of pace- if someone is lagging for retrieving too many balls, that is the problem- not that someone tries for a minute to get their Pro V1 when the group behind is not in sight.

I use my retriever more often not for the drink, but for retrieving across a fence, or in possible poison ivy rough.  When backed up and waiting, I may also go and go fishing a little for Pro V1s.

By the way, my retriever is the super long Callaway 15-foot retriever (http://www.golfsmith.com/products/292475/Callaway/15’_Ball_Retriever).  Fantastic thing about this one, is it comes with a headcover, which does a good job at protecting your clubs, but even with the headcover off (or lost), it has all rounded edges so that the chance to scratch clubs is reduced, and it has the hinges/moving parts with heavy plastic so it won’t rust, and it cleans easily.  It is a weighty beast, but it is rock solid, the first two sections will not bend at all, and I use it for stretching, and as a stand-in for my Speed Stick (I do not carry both at the same time).

You wouldn’t want this baby in your carry bag, but in your push cart it is just fine.

  • I agree.  I understand losing a Pro-V One isn’t the best thing in your life but keeping a good pace on the golf course and respecting other golfer’s time is very important.  Sometimes you have to just let it go.

  • Would you recommend these to anyone?  Or is it a waste of time to try and fish my ball out of the water while I’m playing?

  • Well, it’s a time wasting thing, but when you buy “no so cheap” balls, the thing is reasonable.

  • If you are so tight-assed about retired guys spending time looking for their Pro V1s, maybe you should get a life and worry about the more important things and maybe, just maybe, you too will make to retirement age and live to enjoy it. Otherwise, it sounds like you are headed for a heart attack.

    Good luck
