Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Towel

June 22, 2010

Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Towel

I needed these yesterday. It was hot and humid and I kept thinking about those nice, cool, mango scented towels that the rangers handed out at Disney’s Lake Buena Vista golf course.

The Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad Towels are made from a new hyper-evaporative material that retains water while remaining dry to the touch. When wet, the towel becomes considerably cooler than the outside air, thereby providing cooling relief to the user. When it stops cooling (1-4 hours)simply re-wet the towel and wring it out. Within minutes it is cool again.

  • Bought one last year, bought another this year.

There are two distinct sides to the towel, the drying side and the chilling side.  It does retain moisture for quite some time, I would not exactly call it chilled for that extended time, but it probably doesn’t seem as warm as a regular towel.

I have not mastered exactly how to store/reuse the towel.  Instructions say just to keep it wet in between uses, but sometimes that seems to be a little smelly, not stinky, but smelly.  I have also hung them to dry, and then they harden into whatever shape they are in as they dry.  You then remoisten them initially with warm water, and then wring and moisten with cool water.  Maybe there is no wrong way, because the Togg works regardless - the one from last year has over 40 rounds on it, and works as well as the new one.

The dry side is great for wiping sweat.  when it is the Feels Like 110 degrees like Saturday, I am just soaked all day, I have had days where I am standing over a putt and it looks like raindrops falling around my ball.  I really like the Frogg Toggs for a quick wipe - a towel just tends to spread the sweat, the Togg pulls it off of you.

Further, you can handle the Frogg Togg by the dry side with your hands and not get your palms or glove wet.

  • BTW- when you are ready to wash it, wet it to get it soft, and then throw it in your washing machine with your clothes.  Rinse and wring a few times after it comes out (DON’T put it in dryer!)
