Footjoy Athletics Spikeless Golf Shoe Review

Footjoy Athletics Spikeless Golf Shoes
Grade: B+
I bought a pair of the Footjoy Spikeless golf shoes on closeout from Golf Locker and think I got a very good bargain. As the name implies, the shoes are devoid of either metal or soft spikes. Instead, the sole is textured with little nibs and bumps which serve to provide some grip
I wouldn’t use these shoes on a wet, or soft day. They just don’t provide enough grip for my tastes. But on a relatively dry day, when the fairways and rough are harder, they in many ways are superior to the spikes—especially when walking, since the bottom surface is more uniform. (And in fact, on the driest of those days, I may take the advice of my loyal reader Martin and just play in athletic shoes.)
Footjoy says that the uppers on these shoes are leather, but they have a distinctively plastic feel. Or perhaps its just that today’s plastics can be made to feel so much like leather. No matter. They’re comfortable enough to walk 18 holes on a hilly course, decently waterproof and (so far) durable.
My only real complaint is that the last (the shape of the footbed and shoe) is a tad bit too narrow through the toe for my tastes. But the front of my foot is very wide, so that’s just a personal thing.
I ordered the shoes from GolfLocker and was very satisfied with the price ($40), service and delivery time. I’ve ordered from them before, and definitely will order from them again. I’m thinking about trying a pair of the higher-end spikeless shoes, like the Footjoy Spikeless Icon shoes.

While I still like walking in regular cross training or hiking shoes, I almost exclusively play in Etonic G-Sok spikeless shoes now. For a while I was playing on the wetter days with real spikes, but I have now even given that up. I had a pair of Nike SP-7s which I thought would be the most waterproof, but the G-Sok keeps my foot just as dry, and both keep my foot just about as stable.
Also, I am a bigger guy, so I get a little concerned about making impressions on a wet green, but the Etonics leave so little indentation that it is not a concern.
I bought 3 pairs on closeout over a year ago, and now pretty much have worn one pair for the past 30 rounds or so (most of these are riding rounds), and there isn’t that much weardown of the traction nubs. When I wear them, I usually put them on at home, wear them to the club, in the clubhouse, and at whatever store I go to on the way home.
