Dynacraft Prophet Forged Wedge
Dynacraft Prophet Forged Wedges
Even if the rest of your set consists of cast cavity backs, you may benefit from the unmatched feel of a good forged wedge. Dynacraft’s Prophet wedges are handcrafted from 1020 Carbon Steel for outstanding feel. A slightly-heavier-than-usual head helps the club to move through thick grass as easily as sand. Four way cambered soles allow a player to use the club from a variety of lies.
The best part is that it won’t cost a lot to try a forged wedge. Hireko golf makes these forged wedges available for around $29. And they come with a playability guarantee.

My 56-degree is a Callaway Forged wedge, which used to be my favorite club in the bag, it was almost magical in getting the ball on the green. Unfortunately, that all went to pot earlier this year when I just shank it or hit it thin over the green. It still is wonderful in the sand, but now I am using a regular cavity back (Callaway X-20) 50-degree for many from 80 yards in; my pitching wedge is from 110-70, and I have started bumping and running a lot from 50-60 yards in as well.
Yesterday, good and bad day. front 9- an uncharacteristic 54 (lately 45-49 is right for 9 holes) put me 7 strokes behind my buddy. After a triple on #10 due to a water ball (which I found and retrieved which I considered at least one good thing) - I was 9 strokes back, and he started laughing and singing about how it is unheard of anyone EVER coming back from 9 strokes down in eight holes.
Well, I guess noone still has. I only managed to come back 8 stokes to finish 1 stroke behind, with a 42, which I think is my low for 9 holes, and I am sure it is the low for that back 9. He played similarly, a 47 on the front, and a 49 on the back, which with the added distance and the 13 lakes and ponds on the back, 2-4 strokes worse on the back 9 is normal. (The back 9 has a 217 yard (from the bogey tees) par-3, and a 425 yard par-4, with water 30 yards in front of that green.
Since we had no one in sight, and I finished 18 gaining the last stroke, he wanted to play #18 again to try and beat me on it. If we counted that as the 19th hole, then I won by a stroke as I pared after overshooting the green with the approach, and he doubled.
He also thought that if we had just played Match play that we would not have been playing after #14 or so. When I converted the card to match play as we drove in, I finished 2-up. HA!!!

That’s one of the things that I find endlessly fascinating about Match Play. The final score in terms of strokes, doesn’t necessarily reflect the number of holes won.
