Dave Loggins “Augusta” Video
Here’s a video to Dave Loggins “Augusta”, the song whose instrumental version permeates the broadcasts of The Masters. Lyrics are below:
Well, it’s springtime in the valley on Magnolia Lane
It’s the Augusta National and the master of the game
Who’ll wear that green coat on Sunday afternoon?
Who’ll walk the 18th fairway singing this tune?
Augusta, your dogwoods and pines
They play on my mind like a song
Augusta, it’s you that I love
And it’s you that I’ll miss when I’m gone.
It’s Watson, Byron Nelson, Demaret, Player and Snead
It’s Amen Corner and it’s Hogan’s perfect swing
It’s Sarazen’s double eagle at the 15 in ‘35
And the spirit of Clifford Roberts that keeps it alive
Augusta, your dogwoods and pines
They play on my mind like a song
Augusta, it’s you that I love
And it’s you that I miss when I’m gone.
It’s the legions of Arnie’s Army and the Golden Bear’s throngs
And the wooden-shafted legend of Bobby Jones.

Having grown up in the Augusta, GA, one tends to take things for granted. I remember when Dave Loggins first released this beautiful, memorial to the Masters to be used ONLY at this special time of year. Having moved to Virginia 8 months ago, I never how haunting this song would be for me and how much it would make me miss this special annual event. Tonight, while sitting 500 miles from the serene, scenic Augusta National, I shed a tear for a place near and dear to my heart.

There are a very few places lucky enough to have meaningful songs associated with them. As a WVU graduate, I get a tear in my eye when I hear “Country Roads”. Then there’s “I Left My Heart In San Francisco”, “New York, New York” and .... I really can’t think of any others. Rocky Mountain High, perhaps for Colorado. Yellow Rose of Texas—although I don’t know if modern Texans have any feeling for that one.

What makes this song so special is that I have friends in Radio and I remember the year it was released for Masters Week ONLY play and it touched my heart then and since I moved, it means even more to me. It may even the motivation to move me back to that place where behind those tree lined fences housed off Washington Road in Augusta, GA is one of the most reknowned coursed in the world! I am one of the privileged few who have gone there many times and have even worked there. I AM THE PRIVILEDGE ONES!

I just sent an American Greetings online Mother’s Day card to my daughter, and the music accompanying it sounded an awful lot like the instrumental version of “Augusta”. The specific card’s “headline” is: You’re a Wonderful Daughter and Mother. There’s a peach-colored rose on the front of the card. Not sure this is going to help. Can’t imagine American Greetings revealing the music or artist—but I’ll give it a try. I, too, would love a copy of the music.

I finally seem to have found the instrumental version - if this URL won’t open for you, try looking on YouTube. It says it is on there (but I haven’t verified it yet).

I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Loggins in Nashville, and playing 18 holes with him while there. To my surprise, later that evening he sang “Augusta” at a charity event, and we all were “wowed” by his performance. What a beautiful tribute to the Masters; what a talented guy Dave is!

I just received another comment regarding the song, “Augusta” - so of course, I had to listen to the music again. It brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it as well as about a million memories! I’m glad others love it as much as I do.

I look forward to The Masters especially because I know I will hear this memory enlisting ballad.

I was in utter amazement when antiquing in Quantico, VA that I found a water color of the 12th hole at the National. It looks like it was done in the late 60’s or early 70’s based on the land scape and what the golfers bags looked like. It is signed by Art Sarratt and without taking it out of the frame, I only know that when I found this picture, I had to play the song again. It was like coming home.

Thanks for posting the best golf song of all time.
I have been singing this song for 25 years at any golf event I do. Dave and I are old pals and performed it together several times at Celeb Events..Don Cherry and Willie Nelson recorded it as well a few years ago..This rendition is on Dave Loggins song tape demo that he gave me in 1981.. A great guy, a great songwriter and singer, and a great pal..
Kenny Bob
ps I believe it is “Throne” and not “Throngs”

I love everything about the Augusta National including a year ago I ran in to a small antique store in Quantico VA. I was surprised to find a most amazing water color of the 12th hole of the Augusta Nation. It is signed Art Sarrat???(?) I have seen a print of this else where but this looks like an original water color. Any suggestions? From of the looks of the golf bags, it looks as if it may be circe 1960s I am looking for answers without taking this painting apart. I can send pictures when needed.
Anne. It’s the Augusta Nartional. Dave Loggins said it all!
