Craichael Car Golf Rack

Craichael Golf is a Michigan-based company that makes a nifty rack for storing your clubs in the back of your SUV. I met them at the 2011 Michigan Golf Show, where the owner explained that its development was a necessity-is-the-mother-of-invention sort of thing: He discovered that the backs of many sport utes won’t accommodate a set of clubs laid lengthwise. You can see from the photo that—unless held at an angle—the clubs don’t fit in the SUV. Elevate one end, however ...
When I bought my Subaru Forester, one of the biggest selling points was that—unlike other cars of its size—my clubs fit easily. I would think that car designers would consider golf clubs when designing the trunks.

Interestingly, clubs used to fit in the old Grand Cherokee, but they don’t fit in the GMC Acadia unless slanted.
Some car manufacturers do have clubs on their mind. While shopping for cars a couple years ago, the Nissan salesguy pointed out that a convertible 350Z had a diagram on the underside of the trunk of how to get the clubs into the trunk.
And with a Honda S2000, it will actually fit two golfbags in the trunk, but the drivers and fairway woods have to be taken out and laid on top.
My struggle was fitting a bag and push cart in the back of a convertible Mustang. It worked with only a few select push carts (the wheels had to be removable). Now I have a larger trunk with a Mustang Coupe, and can fit 3+ golf bags, but still fairly limited on getting a push cart in there. I always have my BagBoy Compact LX with me, (note: Compact, not Lite) stuffed in the trunk with the clubs, but if I know I am headed to the course and walking, I have to drop a seat to get my electric cart in the car.

Interesting idea. In my current ride, my bag fits diagonally in the trunk, with my Sun Mountain cart fitting nicely in one corner, leaving the opposite corner free for misc. other stuff. If I have a passenger, their gear has to go in the back seat. It’s something I’ll pay attention to come trade-in time.

Kudos fellow Michigander!! Only in this fine state could one expect such a clever, and useful, creation! Not only good for small crossovers and vans, but all the newer small boxers like the Fit as well. Good one! Will definitely pass this along!!!

The four-seat version of the Z, the Infiniti G35 coupe, has a diagram for 2 golf bags on its trunk lid as well.
