Final Corky Meinecke Memorial Golf Outing is Friday

ALLENDALE – For the 17th and final time the Corky Meinecke Memorial Golf Outing will be presented Friday (July 25) at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.

Golf openings remain for the event that contributes to the Corky Meinecke Scholarship that is presented through the GVSU Alumni House to deserving students.

The cost to golf is $99 per individual, or $375 for a team of four. A dinner-only option at $25 is also available.

Call 616-560-8995 to reserve a spot on the tee sheet for the 1 p.m. shotgun start, or to make a donation. An 18-hole scramble is the form of competition. Lunch, dinner and prizes are part of the package. A raffle and silent auction are also part of the event.

The tournament honors Meinecke, a GVSU graduate who was a sports writer for the Detroit Free Press, Detroit News, Bay City Times and Grand Rapids Press. Meinecke and his wife Valerie raised three children whose college educations were the primary reason the tournament was developed through GVSU Alumni just months after his death from cancer in 1997. He was 44.

The endowed Meinecke scholarship will continue to be presented by Grand Valley State.

Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. Dinner in The Gazebo starts around 6 p.m. For information about The Meadows and GVSU, see http://www.gvsu.edu/meadows/.
