Cleveland Golf CG Gold Irons

Designed to maximize forgiveness while still offering a traditional head design, the CG Gold Irons are the latest from Cleveland Golf.
I saw the clubs at the local pro shop on Thursday and was impressed with their looks. The most striking thing about the set—aside from their general good looks—is the soft plastic inset embedded in the back cavity.
Cleveland calls this material “Gelback,” and it’s intended to remove unpleasant vibrations while still offering the necessary feedback.
The clubs feature a number of game improvement features. Cleveland’s “Micro Cavity Technology” offers an “I-Beam” design in removing weight from the topline and moving it to the perimeter. The I-Beam shape of the cut is supposed to offer more strength and stability than with other cuts.
Progressive offset helps players to square the face at impact, while a sling hosel design and longer blade length offers a larger face, and thus a larger sweet spot.
Finally, the CG Gold is fitted with Royal Precision flighted steel shafts. In these, the kick points progress from the long to short irons, offering higher launch on the long irons and more penetration on the short. I have built several sets of clubs with Royal Precision flighted shafts and can testify that they work as advertised.
All in all, these look like a set of clubs I’d like to have. You can find them at Golfsmith.com
