Cleveland CG7 Black Pearl Irons
CLEVELAND CG7 Black Pearl Iron Set 3-PW with Graphite Shafts
Cleveland golf has always struck me as an also-ran in the irons department. While I see their wedges—and to a lesser extent, their drivers—in the bags of publinks golfers, their irons are simply not to be found. Part of that may have to do with the fact that they haven’t always had particularly good looking products. I can distinctly remember a particularly hideous purple graphic in the cavity of one of their irons sets a few years back.
But the new CG7 Black Pearl Irons look terrific. I love dark iron heads, for they imply a seriousness of purpose and a certain weightiness. These also eschew the plastic red and yellow look of their previous sets, while still retaining the gel-back that serves to dampen vibrations.
The irons borrow from Cleveland’s wedge success by applying Zip Grooves to the face—four textured lines milled between each groove to maximize ball-to-face friction and thus, spin. The Black Pearls also borrow from previous sets with microcavities that allow the redistribution of weight throughout the rest of the head.
I’m going to look for a demo day to give these a try.
