Can Phil Take Number One?

June 15, 2010

Apparently after all the math is done, it boils down to this:

If Phil wins the US Open, he becomes the World #1.

If Phil finishes in a solo for 2nd, and Tiger finishes outside the top 4, Phil becomes the World #1.

If Phil finishes solo 3rd, and Tiger finishes outside the top 18, Phil becomes the World #1.

If Phil finishes in a 2-way tie for third and Tiger misses the cut, Phil becomes the World #1.

That’s a lot of pressure on Lefty.

  • It is ridiculous.  So if Phil finishes 4th and Cheatah misses the cut, then Phil is still second to Cheatah?  Granted, Tiger has barely carded enough rounds to even affect a USGA index at this point, if he hasn’t won since 2009 and performed like he has this year, he needs to drop.
