Callaway UPro Go GPS

CALLAWAY uPro GO GPS

CALLAWAY uPro GO GPS

The new Callaway UPro Go GPS looks to me like the old UPro without the flyover views. The full color device does, however, allow you to measure distances not only to the center of green, but to any point on or around the green complex in GoMode. All of the course downloads in the Basic Mode, with distances to center, front and back of the green are free. GoMode requires a one-time activation fee.

Like all GPS units, however, your utility will vary with the number of courses that you play that are available in the manufacturer’s database, and with how dedicated the manufacturer is to adding new ones.

  • Can’t believe I missed this headline!

I am still loving my uPro, and I would recommend to anyone to still consider the uPro (Pro?).  The video flyover is not as useful as it is a cool selling feature.  In practicality, you will almost always turn this off.  However, I would say for my home courses, probably a third of the times I pull the uPro, it is for the fairway view.  It is one thing to be told where the water hazard is on the way straight to the green, but it is another to see the aerial view and be able to measure distance to any point in front or beyond the hazard.

Don’t get me wrong- I would love if my uPro could be upgraded to have Go mode too - I would love if all the basic courses I could upgrade to have green views as well, (and a rendered green view like this does look better than the satellite view).  But for my course, I usually just look at the middle yardage for the green anyway.  Once I stopped going for the flag and instead go to the heart of the green my handicap dropped substantially.

  • The previous post is about the U-Pro and not the pictured U-Pro Go. I recently bought a U-PRO Go - which retails for about 100 dollars less than the top of the line U-Pro from Callaway Golf. The U-Pro go lacks the fly-over feature of the U-Pro and has a feature called go-mode, a 49.99 upgrade that in my opinion is well worth it. The feature allows you to map greens and determine distances with maximum accuracy. The U-Pro - Go will also tell you distances to hazards (18K free included courses) and in go-mode can be flexibly adjusted (very easily) to get accurate pin locations and pretty accurate distances to the pin. The GPS works very well and in virtually any weather or local condition. I have used it once and I am amazed at the simplicity of use and how effective and accurate it’s features are. It will definately lower your handicap, it is light, easy to use and very easy to view in sunlight.

  • The uPro Go works as stated, and I agree with earlier comments except for one huge problem.
if on dogleg with no harzards, there is no way of knowing what yardage is to the dogleg. I purchased the extra option $50 but this “Anypoint” is only good for the green. Which is over kill , you already have yardage for front, middle , back, all hazards around green. What do I need to move the pointer around the green to fine a yardage for???
Called in to tech support and you have to go to more expensive version to get this option to work on fairway.
What a shame. Nice unit other than that.

  • Do not buy this unless you have a desire to want to slit your wrists.

When it works it’s fine - but god help you sync the device to update your courses. I constantly get the error message ‘lost internet connection’ which crashes the sync process - yet my internet connection remains live and well. I contact Callaway through their Customer Service internet support team who never once has acknowledged my email without just an automated response. Pathetic actually.

WAY too many bugs to recommend this to anyone who wants a device that actually works.

  • I used it for about 5 rounds before it quit working.  Plus when I tried to purchase the GoMode upgrade, Callaway would not take my Discover card.  No more Callaway stuff for me.
