Callaway HX Hot Plus
I saw these Callaway HX Hot Plus golf balls at Wal-Mart about a week ago, and my initial thought was “why mess with a good thing.” After all, the Pro V1 is ten years old and people still are playing it. The HX Hot has been one of my go-to balls for the last few years and I’m afraid of what they might have done to it.
So what’s new? Callaway says that the HX Hot Plus features a “new high-speed hot core” that offers more distance with better feel. A new “Speed Layer” is supposed to increase driver speed with a more penetrating trajectory. And finally, it’s got a new cover for more durability.
It sounds good. So I’m worried.

On the ProV1 front, I was surprised when of my regular partners only a couple of 8 or so that play the ProV1 knows that the ball is going to be changing. I believe that talking about it with them that I may cause a mini surge in sales of the existing ball over the next couple weeks.
For the HX Hot- didn’t they change it once already at the beginning of last year? It wasn’t just a new color on the number, I thought that there was supposed to be a slight technical improvement. I look forward to trying out the change, more durable can’t be bad- but I never had an issue with the HX Hot. The Hot Bite is where the problem is- if they can fix that issue, I will switch to the HX Hot Bite.
I wonder where the HX Hot is on the sales chart- it seems like it might be 2nd or 3rd among my compadres.
As for me lately- I am going to work through my stock- which should carry me though next May I think, I am down to about 9 dozen of various sorts. The last few rounds have been Bridgestone TreoSoft, Nike Mojo, and HX Hot. The TreoSoft won me a skin yesterday- not a bad ball in the colder weather.

After searching for a new ball to use, I came across the HX Hot Plus. It took about half of a round to realize that this is one incredible ball. This ball put a 2 year search to an end.
