Callaway FT-9 Tour Draw Driver
CALLAWAY FT-9 Tour Draw Driver
I love this time of year ... all of the new products are hitting the shelves, and each one promises more distance, more accuracy, more spin, lower scoring. I get positively giddy with the possibilities.
Callaway’s FT-9 Tour Draw Driver offers a new “Hyperbolic Face Technology,” which is supposed to increase ball speed across the entire club face, theoretically improving distance, even on off-center hits. In the old days, you’d say that you were getting great distance, even when you didn’t hit it on the screws. But screws are long a thing of the past. This clubhead, for example, is as far from persimmon as I think you can get, being a “fusion” of carbon composite and titanium.
With the Callaway FT-9, players can choose Draw or Neutral settings. An external “web weighting” is used to fine tune the club’s center of gravity for the desired trajectory, ball flight and shot shape. The Tour Version has a slightly open face, catering to those players who have the ability to “work” the ball off the tee.
That “open face” just might be the trick for me, since my usual miss is a hook. The open face might encourage the ball to come back to the fairway in a fade.
