Boaz Project Golf Scramble For Orphans In Russia and India

Some good friends of ours adopted a child from Russia a couple of years ago, so I was interested to read about the Boaz Project and its fundraising golf scramble. If you’re in Indiana May 14, you can play in the scramble at Hickory Sticks in Greenwood. Your $100 donation gets you a round of golf, lunch, drinks, a goodie bag and more.

The plight of Russian orphans in particular is dire. The fall of the Soviet system and the continuing economic issues there have left as many as 650,000 children in some sort of state care. And that “state care” isn’t good. The kids are malnourished, medically underserved and starved for attention in what are essentially warehouses for kids. Our friend’s adopted daughter, Tasha, was lucky to get out. She’s a darling girl, cute as a button, but—a legacy of her problematic early years—tiny for her age, and perhaps behind in other ways developmentally.

I’d go, but it’s four and a half hours away ...
