Bay Hill Is Palmer’s Baby

March 15, 2005

I’ve made no secret of the fact that Arnold Palmer is one of my heroes; and here’s a story that makes me like him even more.

It turns out that Palmer—following in the footsteps of his father—does some of the work on the course himself. In an article in the Mercury News, Steve Telling writes:

Arnold Palmer won’t be playing this year at the Bay Hill Invitational.

After all these years, he won’t be carving it up, raking it around or any of the other slang terms players use.

On second thought, he has done all of the above already.

Last summer, Palmer rolled up his sleeves and personally took some of the sting out of two of Bay Hill’s hardest holes. Forget his golf clubs - Palmer grabbed a rake and shovel and set out to hoe some holes.
