ADAMS Idea Tech V3 Forged Iron Set 4-6 Hybrid with Graphite Shafts, 7H, 8-GW with Steel Shafts

ADAMS Idea Tech V3 Forged Iron Set 4-6 Hybrid with Graphite Shafts, 7H, 8-GW with Steel Shafts

Forged irons aren’t just for single digit handicappers. With the Idea Tech V3 Forged, Adams offers a forged super-game-improvement club. The Tech V3 Forged Set consists of 4-, 5- and 6- progressively-sized hybrids, a 7-mid-hybrid and four oversized cavity back forged irons (8-GW). Thelong hybrids feature strategically placed tungsten weighting in the premium stainless steel head for enhanced forgiveness and spin while a four-way chambered sole and recessed heel and toe areas reduce turf drag for superior playability and versatility. The transitional hybrid mid-iron includes a viscoelastic vibration dampening system for exceptional feel. A precisely located heel and toe weighting in the oversized forged heads of the short irons maximize scoring potential.

Plus, they look sinister with that black finish.

  • This is the sister set to my new set.  I got the all hybrid version of this set back on Christmas Eve.  It is the same 456 hybrids, the 7 mid-hybrid, and then 8,9,P,G are also mid-hybrids, or essentially wide sole clubs.

The 4,5,6 are absolute gold.  Unbelievable.  I went from Callaway 5H heavenwood, and 2,3,4 X-Hybrids to these, and these hybrids were just perfect with the first hit.  In fact, I pulled the plastic off the 6 hybrid in the fairway on the first hole that day, hit into the wind on a cold day and was the only one in my foursome GIR and to make a par.  On the longer hybrids, I believe these are strengthened a little from the Callaways as well, the 4H is 22 degrees, and with my Callaway 3 X-Hybrid it was 21 degrees.

Now the mid-hybrids are taking a little more getting used to.  One thing is that they are easy to hit, and they are forgiving and go straight - but distance is screwy for me right now with them.  Sometimes I am hitting really high, and sometimes not.  I can be hitting about 30 yards variance in the 8-hybrid.  Part of this is that I am walking now, and it is hard on me - hitting irons and wedges gets rough for me later in the round (hybrids and driver I can hit all day without a problem)-  The other problem is that only one round played (out of six) with these clubs has been with the course in non-sloppy conditions.

I will probably get used to these irons, but if not, by summer, I may be looking at the 7-P in the Adams CB2s - you get the same dark finish, but in non Super Game Improvement.  Or I could see picking up the X-24 7-P cheap on closeout as well.  That club didn’t work out for Callaway, but I still think it looks cool, and I still love the X line.

One additional club I did add since I got these was a 19-degree Adams Super Hybrid.  It has a larger head than the Tech V3s, and is replacing both my Callaway 2 hybrid and Callaway 5W.

One note on the black finish.  It will lose that finish the same as a black wedge will.  They are still going to look great - but the sole won’t be that jet black very long.  Take a look at some of the high res detail picks on ebay of the Adams Super Hybrids.

  • I have a set of earlier Adams hybrid irons, and my main complaint was a loss of distance from about the six iron up.

  • I wish I had purchased the V3 forged set. I got the complete V3 hybrid set and during the third round the 8 iron/hybrid head broke off of the shaft (senior graphite) when I hit a shot out of some very thick rough. This club was never abused and I don’t think it should have happened but when you feel the weight of the club head with the very wide sole I guess you can see how this could be a problem. Adams Golf refuses to fix or replace the club because I bought them (brand new) on ebay. Pretty poor customer service/satisfaction, I think.
