Adams A7 OS Chipper
All of the golf experts say that the fastest way for an amateur to lower his scores is to improve play around the greens. That said, I’ve wondered about the average player’s obsession with newer, faster, “longer” drivers. It might make more sense (both score wise and financially) to spend a small fraction of that money on a club that could help you from 20 yards in.
The Adams A7 OS Chipper tries to do just that. A cross between a wedge and a putter, the Adams Chipper has a 37 degree loft to get the ball up quickly, and rolling. The sole is designed to cut through turf.
I have a chipper that I built years ago from a GolfWorks kit and I pull it out of storage when I hit one of those streaks where I’ve completely lost my short-game feel. I use a putting grip and stroke and it usually works wonders from 50 yards in.
The difficulty of using one is, of course, trying to figure out what club to drop in its place. For me, its usually the three or four iron. I can’t hit those consistently anyway.

Golf Blogger,
I just bought an Adams Chipper because my wedges are so erratic, but have only used it a few times to practice with. Part of me doesn’t want to use it on the course because I don’t want to get laughed at by my playing partners- but then it beats pushing the ball into a sand trap with my wedge from 30 yards!
If you need room in your bag take out your 3-wood or 5-wood.
Also, the Rules of Golf allow only one club with a putter grip. I’m not a stickler for rules but someone may.
Thanks! PinehurstGolfer

There is no shame in using a chipper. The shame is in laying up on a easy shot and terrible play around and on the green! I am proud of my chipper because I can hit my wedges very well, BUT inside of 50 yards to the green, when I am sitting with nothing but green between me and the hole, I demonstrate the value of that chipper. Normally I would punch the ball with a 7-Iron or even a driver from that spot.
Believe me, the laughing stops when I embarrass the posers playing with me. Then THEY want to try it.

We must always remember that the sole golf of the game is to get the ball in the hole. You don’t get any points for style.
