The legendary par 3 third at Torrey Pines measures 149 from the Championship and 198 from the US Open tees. It’s a great hole—not only for the view, but for the strategic options. Of the three guys I played with, only one put it on the green. One misjudged the distance (easy to do, since it’s downhill) and flew over. The other missed left. I took the safer way, and hit to the wide landing spot right of the green. Then, I pitched it close and putted in for a par. Not a US Open winning strategy, but it shows the decisions this hole forces.
