Dana Quigley Profile

Dana Quigley, who never amounted to much on the PGA Tour, has hit it big on the Champions circuit. Totally dedicated, he played in 264 consecutive events before missing the Senior British Open in Scotland this year. And he has won more than $11 million in eight seasons as a senior.
The Seattle Post Intelligencer has a nice profile on the Champions Tour Ironman.
What I find most interesting about the profile is that Quigley says there are two classes of players on the Champions Tour: players who “graduated” from successful PGA Tour careers, and players who—for one reason or another—never made it on the PGA Tour, but are finding success in the Champions Tour.
Quigley says that “They feel like we’re stealing their money.” “THEY” are the players who have come from the PGA. The “WE’RE” are the club pros who have found themselves late in life.
Interesting. Cliques on the Champions Tour.

PowerBilt Composite I Woods
PowerBilt now offers a line of composite hybrid clubs called the TPS Iron Wood. With its composite crown, PowerBilt has been able to move more weight down and to the back of the club, making it easier to get the ball into the air. Its’s available in 17, 21, 24, and 27 degree lofts, which PowerBilt says means that you’ll be able to “retire your pesky 5 and 7 woods, along with the dreaded 2, 3 and 4 irons.”
Best of all is the price. Just $89 at The Golf Warehouse

Maxfli Revolution Tour Golf Ball Review
MaxFli Revolution Tour
Grade: A
The MaxFli Revolution Tour is one of many very good, moderately priced golf balls on the market today. And, it’s made even more attractive by the fact that you can get it at 40% off at The Golf Warehouse. That’s a dozen for just $18.
I’ve been playing the Revolution Tour this week, and have found a lot to like about it. It offers good, straight distance—not exceptional, but good. I’ve been able to chip it close and spin it with a wedge around the green. And it has a nice feel on the putter face (The most important thing in my mind. What’s five more yards off the tee if you add extra strokes because you can’t putt with it ).
The Maxfli Revolution Tour also is durable. I hit a couple of cart paths on a disastrous round yesterday, and the Revolution Tour survived with only slight cosmetic blemishes. (I also hit a few trees and finally smacked the darn thing into a pond. It didn’t survive the pond.)
At the current price, I’m going to pick up another box.

Obsessed With Equipment
And I thought I was obsessed with golf equipment.
The St. Petersburg Times has a blurb about a guy who buys 20 new sets of irons a year.

Gary Player Just Keeps Going and Going

Like the energizer bunny, Gary Player just keeps going and going. Now 69, Player still regularly does 1,000 sit ups and can do one handed pushups. I saw him stretch is foot over his head from a standing start on teh Golf Channel a couple of years ago.
Now, Player, just one of five with a career Grand Slam, says that his goal is to be the first to win an event on the PGA or Champions Tour in six different decades.
That’s a Gordie Howe or Rick Dempsey-like ambition.
I have to say that I’ve always liked Player, especially for the fact that we share the same birthday.
Read more about Gary Player in this article in the Seattle Times.

Favorite Golf Gadgets Of The Summer
Steve Czaban of OnMilwaukee has a good article on his favorite golf gadgets of the summer: Underarmor underwear; Hi-Tec Golf Shoes; the Putting Arc; Vijay Singh’s Speedstick; Dual Zone sunglasses; and Titleist’s new hybrid irons, which he says look more like a beefed up iron than an undersized wood.
