Electronic Arts Tiger Woods Game Ad Banned
From the Get A Life Department comes the news that British Authorities have banned a television ad for the Tiger Woods Wii game because the image shown actually was from an X-Box 360.
From Wired:
The British Advertising Standards Agency has banned a series of television ads for Electronic Arts’ Tiger Woods ‘09, claiming the spots could mislead consumers with their combination of footage from multiple platforms, reports Edge.
Key to the issue is a segment of the ads in which Woods is seen swinging a Wiimote while footage from the Xbox 360 version of the game mimics his actions. EA claims that footage from the Wii version of the game would not be “broadcast quality” and that no gameplay features shown in the ad are left out of the Wii version.
I asked Thing One about the issue, and with the confidence that only a thirteen-year-old could have about a video game, he assures me that it’s a big deal because the 360 has better graphics, but the Wii has better gameplay.
Silly me. I was sure the issue had about as much substance as the age-old “Batman versus Superman in a fight” argument. After all, I’m perfectly happy with the Tiger Woods PGA game I play on my cell phone. Being old enough to remember Pong when it first came out, any graphics more complex than a Sears Intellivison impress me.

LPGA Major Opens Pro-Am To Public
The downturn in the national economy will give local amateur golfers a chance to play with top LPGA pros in the Kraft Nabisco Championship’s two-day pro-am.
Gabe Codding, head of tournament operations for the Kraft Nabisco, said Thursday that tournament owner Kraft is cutting back on customer service aspects of the tournament in 2009, meaning Kraft won’t bring out as many clients or corporate executives to the event at Mission Hill Country Club.
In turn, the tournament now has about 200 berths into its pro-am that will now be available to the public for $10,000. The berths include golf for two days with an LPGA pro, one day each on the Dinah Shore Tournament and Palmer courses, as well as a pairings party, awards party and admission for the week to the LPGA major championship. The pro-am will still feature 20 to 25 celebrities.
I find it interesting that Kraft is the owner of the Tournament formerly known as the Dinah Shore, and not merely the sponsor. In that sense, it has the same independent status as the US Open, British Open, PGA Championship and Masters, all of which are men’s “Majors”, yet none of which are owned by the PGA Tour.
I’m hoping that the Masters runs into economic difficulty so I can buy a spot in a pro-am there.

Golf Carts, Jets and Helicopters
It turns out that the E-Z-Go power golf carts are manufactured by Textron Corporation, which also makes Cessna jets and Bell helicopters.
So why won’t they go faster? ![]()
In a sign of the times, it turns out the company is laying off 120.
