Eidolon Wedges
New Eidolon wedges are designed to increase the amount of spin you can put on your ball with cnc milled faces and what the company says is a
patented V-Sole™ Technology through which the leading edge of the wedge’s sole — about one-quarter of an inch — has an aggressive bounce (18 degrees bounce on the 52-degree lofted wedge, 30 degrees bounce on the 56 wedge, and 25 degrees of bounce on the 60-degree wedge) that ensures that the leading edge never digs into the turf. The primary rear portion of the sole features minimal bounce — three degrees on the 52 gap wedge, seven degrees on the 56 mid- wedge and six degrees on the 60 lob wedge.
Now, everyone would like to be able to spin the golf ball back like the PGA pros do, but I’m told that one of the biggest reasons they can do it is that the greens that are prepared for the tour are significantly different from the ones you play at your local publinks. The pros are simply working with a different surface.

Wie Returns To Sony Open
She didn’t have a win last year, but Michelle Wie has returned to the Sony Open, where she missed the cut by one stroke. And, in the process, she finished ahead of a number of seasoned tour pros, including Steve Flesh and Adam Scott. Here’s an article on Michelle’s second go-round in a PGA tour event. Best bit: Apparently those who finished behind Wie last year took a bit of ribbing, including having her picture taped on their locker.
Swing Flutter
Jim McLean apparently is endorsing this new golf training device, which uses audio feedback to let a golfer know when the swing is on plane. The Swing Flutter attaches to a attaches to your golf shaft and apparently makes distinctive sounds depending upon how it is swung. Interestingly, there’s not a picture of the thing on their whole website. Makes me wonder if its so simple to reproduce that you wouldn’t have to shell over the $29.95 to get one.
Golf Calendars - Sophie Sandolo and Natalie Gulbis

Update: You can get the 2007 Calendar here: Sophie Sandolo 2007 Calendar
Update: You can find information on Sophie Sandolo’s 2006 calendar here.
I get a USGA calendar every year with my membership. I’ve also gotten golf calendars from various relatives. But NOTHING like this one.
Sophie Sandolo is a player on the European Ladies Tour. With six top ten appearances, she’s no Anna Kournikova, but its still a bit much from a lower-tier player. But then, if you’re a lower tier player, maybe this is what you have to do to make a living.
You can read a more detailed article here.
If you want a little cheesecake with your golf, but your better half won’t let you have the Sandolo calendar, you could try Natalie Gulbis’ less revealing one, which you can get at Its Already Signed 4 U.
Lehman Picks Co Captains For Ryder Cup
US Ryder Cup Captain Tom Lehman has selected Corey Pavin and Loren Roberts to serve as co-captains for the 2006 event. I don’t think it’s going to help. As Jamie Diaz noted in a recent issue of Golf Digest, US players are slowly being eclipsed by international stars. Twenty six of the 48 PGA events last year were won by non-US players. And, Diaz says, after the big three of Mickelson, Woods and Love, the rest of the top players are “plodders” who “ply their trade on a tour that rewards middling finishes with riches.”
I posted similar thoughts earlier this year. I maintain that the selection system is broken, and that the captain—or captains—should be free to pick young, hungry players, instead of jaded pros for whom second ... or fifth ... or twentieth ... in a regular tournament is ok becuase it means a decent payday.
