Garmin Approach G6 Handheld Touchscreen Golf Course GPS

Golf GPS units keep getting better and better. My first had a black and white screen and indicated only the distance from your location to the center of the green. My second (and current unit) is a Garmin G5, which was a thousand times better, with a color screen, the ability to find the distance to midpoints and a greens view. It is a bit chunky, though.

The G6 adds more features, even as it slims down. To the distance to greens and midpoint features it adds distance arcs. And to the stats and basic sorekeeping of the G5, it adds the ability to keep track of Stableford, Match Play points and skins.

One feature is going to be a matter of taste, though: the rechargable battery. The G5 run on regular AA batteries. That can be expensive, but when I run out of power midround, I’ve always got a spare set of batteries in the bag. The rechargables run for 15 hours though, so if you are disciplined about recharging the unit, that shouldn’t be a problem.
