Good Shaver October 24, 2008
I have had another norelco for years. The blades have worn out and buying a new razor is almost the same cost as replacing the head so I got the 8140. Noreclos still work much better than other electrics. Have not had a bad one yet.
Shaves well, but could be better October 21, 2008
I have used this razor daily for around three months now. At first, there were a couple of hairs it always missed, but now it gets them all and overall it has given a very good shave; I hadn't realized electric razors could be so good.
Two small hassles, though: (1) There is very little warning that the battery is low and about to run out. If you notice that the speed has dropped slightly, you have maybe a minute at most before it stops dead. (2) The metal sprung hinge attaching the razor head assembly to the main unit has become loose enough that in mine the base of the hinge detaches from the main unit far too easily and is a bit of a pain to wedge back in, meaning that cleaning it is suddenly much more of a chore. For this price, I'd have expected better build quality.

Seems to be a nice shaver, but if you skip a day of shaving you really notice the pull on the whiskers. I figured that would happen when it got dull after a few months but it was that way out of the box. Also, the light that's supposed to come on when you need to recharge doesn't. Not sure if I got a lemon, but I'm not super impressed. But I just make sure I shave every day and no whisker pulling. Also didn't get everything I was supposed to get in the package. Missing the cleaning brush, but I can use my old shaver brush. Not a huge deal by itself, but when added to the whisker pulling, and lack of recharge notice, not overly happy. Hope others have had good luck with this one.

Philips Norelco 8140XL SpeedXL Men's Shaver My husband complained and complained about the terrible shaves he was getting from the three shavers he was using. So I ordered the Norelco SpeedXL Shaver for him. All I have heard is how close his shave is and how much he enjoys it. 5 stars to it. My ears are resting from all the griping!
