5 out of 5 stars Competent Unit but issues for colloidal mixtures   August 18, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

For those of you who may be considering this unit to make distilled water for purposes of making your own colloidal silver solutions take note: The charcoal filter that comes with the unit must not be employed or else the distilled water will be too conductive and you will be unable to properly suspend silver in the solution. Otherwise competent, albeit noisy - so I would keep this in a closet or basement rather add to the din in a typical kitchen.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect distilled water   July 6, 2008

This product is very efficient (you put in a gallon and it makes a gallon)and makes great-tasting water. It's simple to use (I'm appliance-challenged usually) and easy to keep clean.

5 out of 5 stars Buying another for a back up   June 15, 2008
I've been making 4 gallons of water every other day since I got it. Love it! It pays for itself in 3 short months! The saved cost of gas to get to the store and the saved cost of water refills. Not to mention the savings in labor drudgery hauling all that water weekly. Do the math for your savings. Surrounded by one tainted water crisis after another, I plan to buy another for an emergency back up.

5 out of 5 stars Great Multi-Use Product   June 12, 2008
As stated in other reviews, it works best if you shut it off manually before all the water is gone (this will prevent the mineral scales from burning). I also agree that the fan is loud, but not loud enough to not recommend the product. I still give it a 5 out of 5 because the price is right and it does what its supposed to do. As for the multi-use part from my title, my brother removed the the charcoal filter and uses his to make tasty adult beverages (just look up spirit distillation if you don't understand). I haven't tried it but he says it works great for small home use batches.

4 out of 5 stars so far, so good . . .   May 28, 2008
i really like this counter top distiller. After distilling tap water with this unit i was amazed at how much residue was left at the bottom of the container. I recommend shutting off the unit a little before its done with the distillation process so that the residue doesn't bake onto, and build up on, the inside walls of the unit. If it does, its not a big deal. The unit comes with a cleaning solution that works quickly and easily. I do wish that the unit had a timer that could be set to shut it off, or some sort of sensor that could be adjusted to shut the unit off when "x" amount of water was still in the container, but if you pay attention to when you plug it in, its not rocket science to remember to unplug it about 4.5 hours later (another feature that is lacking: there is no off switch, you have to unplug the unit from the wall to turn off the power)

The unit does make a fair amount of noise while running (it sounds like a 6 inch fan running, because, well . . thats exactly what is happening:) I happen to like the sound of white noise, so for me its not a problem.

I've only had the unit a little over a month, so i'm not sure how it will hold up over time, but so far, so good.
