1 out of 5 stars WARNING handles broke   September 2, 2008
10 out of 12 found this review helpful

Yes the plastic handles broke. I bought this for my use and for the Marines that i work with to use also. It has received heavy use in 7 weeks. the young Marine who broke them weighs 185 pounds! Both handles broke and he fell on his knees. Somebody with bad knees would have been in the hospital. The idea is great. Quality really is poor. Read the other reviews they all talk about quality issues. I custom made a door frame and secured it to the concrete hanger wall. Also made it higher. It is too low for everyone but dwarfs to use in a door frame. I took the handles to my machine shop and they are making new handles out of metal. The pushups are plastic too and by the way they creak and crack , they will break soon. I am going to make a metal set of those as well. maybe use a caster from a wheel as my swiveling base. If you have no machining skills i recommend using a rope for the pullup handles. thread the rope thru a piece of pipe, say five inches long and use that for a handle. this way you can still use a twist motion as you pull up. that is the great gimmick of the equipment. being able to twist takes the stress out of your shoulder , elbow and wrist joints. hope this helps. Has anyone else broken the pullup handles or the pushup handles? They must have.

5 out of 5 stars JUST THE TICKET FOR MY NEEDS   September 1, 2008
I am a 73 year old avid scuba diver & get a lot of aerobic exercise, but not nearly enough strengthening in certain core muscle groups. I thoroughly investigated reviews of the Perfect Pullup & decided to buy it & the optional Ab Straps. It arrived well packaged & surprised me in terms of it's quality & durability. The installation instructions were easily understandable, & I installed it in no time.

Flattening my stomach & improving my abdominal definition were my main goals in purchasing the System. For the Ab Strap Workout there is a 3 excercise poster with tips & pictures to follow, that makes it very easy to get started & working up to a comfortable exercise level. I am working up reps on the Knee Up & Oblique Knee Up exercises, but I'll leave the Leg Lifts to the younger generation.

For toning the biceps, shoulders & back, the basic System comes with 2 SWIVEL hand grips, that are key & integral in getting the most exercise benefit. Like the Ab Strap Workout, there is a 3 exercise poster, etc. Again, I'll leave the Full Pullup to the younger generation, & concentrate on the Standing Row & Austrailian Pullup. For me, the Standing Row exercise works best, as I can do reps practically all day & besides stretching & improving the feeling in my shoulders & biceps I can also concentrate on improving my abdominal core muscle definition.

A major additional advantage to the System, is that the Crossbar itself can be lifted out of it's upper brackets & used as a swivel bar to do all types of stretching, pulling, pushing, lunging, etc., exercises. I find it very helpful in using the Crossbar in this manner to warm up for my workout progam.

The [...] website has lots of tips, new ideas & exercise variations, so I plan to use the site frequently. Overall, the System does for me, exactly what it is advertised to do & what I thought it would do. It is well worth the expenditure. I also highly recommend purchasing the optional Ab Straps with the System.

5 out of 5 stars relief for wrists   August 8, 2008

I'm a 59 year old Captain of the water rescue team here in Maine and I find that the perfect pullup reduces the strain in my wrists, which is my weakest joint, and allows me to concentrate on my back, shoulders, and arms. Great product.

1 out of 5 stars The Perfect Rip Off   August 6, 2008

This is the latest and greatest in Chinese engineering.
Keep in mind that you need to mount this contraption as high as possible in a "standard" doorway to achieve the height for it to work properly.
Ist, try getting the screws into the top of the doorway. There is so little clearance from where the screw hole is supposed to be & the top of the door jamb. Impossible to drill a straight hole & even harder to get the screw in. Didn't really matter though; most of ther screw heads broke off before the screws were seated.

I am not a novice with hand tools. Indeed, I own every type of tool there is. However,no quality or quantity of tool could help me with this piece of junk!
The fold down part of this contraption is unpredictable & always manages to bind.

There is a lot of deception sold with this product. In the advertisment pictures you would suspect that the product is made of steel. What you discover upon unpackaging the contents of the box is that manufactures have mastered the art of painting plastic to resemble metal. This is the first disappointment. The second dissappointment was that there was no hex key. It was supposed to be included (and maybe most people actually get one) but was not.I hope everybody can find their "metric" hex wrench set to cure this problem. If you have to go out and buy a hex wrench you can take one of the broken screw heads with you and buy screws at the same time.

I was moved to try and contact the vendor by email.I never heard a word in reply. This is the real test of a solid, quality seller.

My son does use the pull-up portion of this device everyday. Unfortunately, the pull-down part is to troublesome to coax into use but we make lemonade out of lemons,so to speak.
Overall this is a purchase I regret.I could have purchased a quality pull-up bar for less money and headaches.
If you got to have one,Wait!...you will eventually be able to buy one at Big Lots for $19.95

I do own the Perfect Push Up-No problems there. Must be a distant relative.
