3 out of 5 stars Don't they have Beta Testers?   October 6, 2008
I wanted to be able to take my own blood pressure quietly and unobtrusively (at work and eleswhere). I checked the consumer ratings and found that wrist type blood pressure cuffs are never as accurate as those that measure the brachial artery pressure, but the Omron was better rated than some of the other brands. I got the HEM-670IT because it came with the Advanced Omron Health Management Software that lets you store and analyze your readings in a computer. Yeah, I'm a gadget freak!

Overall I've been happy with the convenience and the accuracy. I checked it against the doctor's office and both the systolic and diastolic were within 10%. It's especially important to follow the instructions with a wrist-cuff meter and always to be consistent. The HEM-670IT has a sensor that tells you when you need to raise your wrist until it's the same height as your heart to cancel any difference in pressure, due to gravity.

Amazon offered a package deal with the Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer that also uses the Advanced Omron Health Management Software. You can store your exercise readings alongside your blood pressure readings. So, I ordered them as a pair.

Here's where things go awry. You'd think that Omron would've designed both units to use the same cable, but you'd be wrong. I anticipated being able to use the same cable on both units, leaving one cable at home and the other cable at work, so I didn't have to constantly tote a cable. Well, since the don't use the same cable, I have to tote both cables so as to have them at home and work. What's worse, although the Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor comes in an adequate, hard plastic case, its data cable has a giant hard plastic "dongle" in the middle of the cable which makes it impossible to carry it in the case with the meter. I suppose the "dongle" has some "secret electronics" in it that are necessary, but come on! If we can put a dune buggy on Mars, you'd think we would be able to make a cable that will fit in the carrying case or a carrying case that will fit around the cable.

Batteries? Yes they both have them. The cuff uses 2 AAAs. If I could've found another brand that used 2 AAs we wouldn't be having this conversation. The pedometer uses a Lithium "coin" battery (who ever has the right replacement on hand when they need it?) and requires a miniture cross-point screwdriver to change it.

I give this combo 3 stars, but with a little forethought on Omron's part it could'a been a 5.

A+

5 out of 5 stars Most accurate wrist blood pressure monitor!   October 6, 2008
I had a lot different blood pressure monitors, arm, wrist, standard, digital, mercury, blood pressure monitors, but amazingly the results are exactly same as mercury blood pressure monitor that is most accurate, the only problem is if your heartbeat is too weak then it shows 10% less than what mercury blood pressure monitor shows,so don't buy it if your heartbeat is too weak!

Ademonstration video would be a big help.

One picture is worth a thousand words.
Once you get the hang of it, it works quite well.
