Highland CarPak Roof Carrier July 30, 2008 The roof carrier worked great on our recent trip to Florida from Atlanta. We went through several hard downpours over 8 hours of driving and everything inside the carrier was dry. I do wish they had three zippered side instead of two. It was inconvienent trying to get items in the back corner of the carrier. Overall, it was well worth the money.
Worked great! July 28, 2008 We just returned from our vacation in Myrtle Beach SC. It is about a 7 Hr. drive for us. While searching the internet a came across the this bag and was worried about it's size and being able to handle heat and 75 MPH, so after looking at the reviews there was all kind of worried going thru my head rain, straps breaking, having to live with my wife if i left our luggage in the middle of I95. I am here to say that besides a little tough to load on a Ford expedition it is GREAT, Great PRICE, and weather proof! We ran through rain that slowed traffic to about 40 MPH on the interstate,we got home everything was dry.Size? WE actually got 4 peices of luggage( one good size and 3 "carry-on " sized)in the bag with plenty of room for other loose bags. I will recommend using 2 rachet straps for extra tie down sercurity. In the end its weather proof, sturdy, great price, and did the job! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Very pleased July 24, 2008 Recently, nine of us (4 adults and 5 kids) went on vacation for a week where we took all our food plus outdoor games & etc. Our vehicle was the largest, so the food was stored inside along with the coolers. Then there was luggage and bedding which was stored on top in the Kar Pak. It worked beautiful! We packed the Kar Pak the night before we left and it rained overnight, but everything was perfectly dry when we unpacked it the next afternoon upon reaching our destination. I'm so glad I went online to find a great Kar Pak. I did purchase one away in advance at a retail store only to find that it must have been returned, because all the pieces were not there. So, that is what brought me to purchase online at the last minute.
EXCELLENT!! with some reservations July 23, 2008 Bought this back in February 08 for 23.99 from here. For the size and quality I think I got a fantastic deal.
What I like:
The squareness - it is great for packing duffle bags and rolling suitcases when stacking. I got tons of stuff in it.
The material feels like quality and it held up great through a pounding rainstorm.
There aren't tons of cords to tie down like in many other carriers. I still finished it off with my bungy cords but I can admit that that was for my own peace of mind - I really feel this carrier would have been perfectly fine without my added extra tie downs.
WHat I didn't like:
The zippers only go so far so that you are pushing your luggage into the carrier instead of placing it on it. A little hard to work with.
The squareness! It sits so high and has nothing to help with aerodynamics. I used this carrier on my Mariner from MI to FL. Normally, my Mariner gets about 25MPG on the highway. With my old carrier, that was rounded in the front - I got about 22MPG. With this Kar Pak I was down to about 19MPG. Quite a difference.
Also, be aware that this does not fit all vehicles. I had to remove my front crossbar in order for this to fit on my Mariner.
Still, I was amazed at the amount of luggage I could get in the carrier and am overall happy with it. It was an excellent buy.
worked great July 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this for a trip from Massachusetts to Delaware and found it easy to attach to the van (even my non-mechanically inclined husband figured it out!) took about 10 minutes tops. Having read the reviews of several products and hearing complaints about nothing being waterproof I pack all our stuff in Space bags and loaded up the Kar Pac. I fit 3 large bags full of bedding and towels, 4 fishing rods, tackle box, three beach pails, a large frisbee, two boogie boards and a bag with 5 pair of shoes in it and still had a bit of room. I did put on a couple of bungee cords to be sure and off we went. At speeds of around 70mph for almost 500 miles down and 500 back, in wind and driving rain this thing worked great. Everything was bone dry and the bag never moved, the car performed as if it wasn't even there. I tied the straps down so no flapping and absolutely no noise either. A great deal for the money
