3 out of 5 stars still evaluating   August 31, 2008
Used it twice/ locked up three times/had to restore/is not compatible w/my laptop/ works great when it works/ the jury is still out....Joey V

5 out of 5 stars Golf Logic GPS   August 30, 2008
Helped lower my score by 3 strokes first time out. Easy to download courses. Gives you yardage to bunkers, hazards, front, center and back edge of greens. With a push of a button you can see how far you really hit a shot. No need to look for yardage markers. Speeds up play!

2 out of 5 stars Lock ups make this thing a nightmare!!   August 27, 2008
We bought the Golf Logix 2008 model in Spring of this year (2008) and at first, it was wonderful. After about 6 weeks, it began "locking up" where none of the buttons would work, and we had to pull out the batteries to get it turned off. Per the Golf Logix support team, you HAVE to "connect the unit to a PC and reset the options" while connected to the internet to get it to work again. Fine, except it fails on the first hole or so, and I don't have a PC with an internet connection on the course, so no GPS for that round!! When it started locking up almost every time I used it, they agreed to send me a replacement unit, but not a refund! It came in a few days, but even though I did what they told me to do to avoid a second $29.95 fee for the annual subscripton, I was billed anyway and had to call several times to get that reversed--no one answered my emails on this either. I got the replacement unit on July 7, 2008, and it locked up once, so I reset it, then it locked up again today (Aug. 28). I was assured that this problem was "very rare" and the replacement unit would resolve it so imagine how I felt when I read how many other customers have been down this road before me!! If I could, I would write to Peter Kostis and David Feherty and tell them how mad I am that they endorsed this piece of garbage, making me feel safe in buying it. Since the clock is running on the one-year warranty, all they need to do to steal my $300 is wait a few more months and I am totally screwed!

5 out of 5 stars Best choice   August 27, 2008
I debated between Skycaddie and this Garmin and am very happy with my choice. It's compatible with my Mac and the fee is less than Skycaddie as well as having a couple of local course that Skycaddie does not have. So far have played 72 holes with it on the same set of batteries.

3 out of 5 stars OK but has some serious faults   August 25, 2008

I ordered this product because of the Garmin name, the 30 day return policy, and the fact that it is battery powered. I already have a Sureshot re-chargeable golf GPS unit.
The first problem I encountered was the necessity to pay a $30 subscription in order to test the unit. I ultimately returned the unit well within the 30 days, but was out the $30 subscription fee.
I chose the unit initially because I sometimes forget and leave my Sureshot on the charger. I liked the item of a battery powered unit I could leave in my bag with a spare set of batteries.
The main problem I found with the Garmin unit is the limited info it will display at any one time. As an example, on my home course, the first hole is a par 5. A 250 yard drive leaves you about 250 yds from a heavily bunkered elevated green and about 60 yards from a fairway bunker. I wanted a lay up distance short of the cluster of bunkers below the green, but the only distance the unit displayed beyond front/middle/back-of-green yardages was the distance to and to carry the not-in-play fairway bunker 60 yds away. If I wanted the lay up distance I had to walk past the fairway bunker before the unit would display the next bunker. No matter what buttons I pushed I couldn't get the unit to scroll through other distances.
The distances the unit does provide seemed to be accurate based on my limited tests but the weakness noted above was a deal killer for me.
