Works great! April 7, 2008 This thing is great! If you're looking for a cyclocomptuer that has the basics and is not too expensive, then this is the one to get.
I've only it had for a week or so, but I am very pleased with it. I previously had a Bell 15 function wireless. What a piece of garbage that was. Worked for all of 5 minutes.
This one is wired, which is fine with me. The wire is black and my bike is black so you can't even see it. For those who complain they don't like the look of the wire on their bike, I'd like to ask them how they deal with looking at all of the other wires on their bike, like the brake cables and the gear shift cables. Stay away from wireless ones as they are prone to interference.
The only drawback is that the directions are not very straight-forward and can be a little confusing, but they provide drawings as well.
Once you get it hooked up it's a piece of cake to use. It's got an automatic feature that's wonderful. Just start riding the bike and the unit turns on and starts tracking you riding time, trip distance, speed, avg speed and top speed. So easy to use.
It's awesome! What are you talking about! March 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This computer is rad! I love it. I am surprised at all of the bad reviews.
The interface could be more intuitive, but even if all you do is keep pressing one or other of the buttons, you will eventually find the screen you want (unless you want to reset, which means you have to press all three buttons). You can print the manual from the Cateye website if you need to, but when I need to reprogram the computer to go on another bike, I just go to the site and look at the manual there. It takes 5 minutes.
This computer does everything I need it to, EXCEPT: *It ought to have a backlight (but that would involve going through batteries more quickly, or using two batteries at once) *I wish there were a cadence option *I wish it were wireless (double-wireless with cadence!) *It'd be safer and more convenient if you could choose which two measurements were onscreen together. Not all of the combinations are available (as far as I've seen, anyway). You have to press the buttons to see different information, and that ain't safe--especially in the dark.
But I mean, it's a sub-$30 computer. I don't expect all of those features for that price. If this computer had all that stuff, though, I'd be willing to pay a lot more for it. As it is, it is an excellent computer for the price.
It works August 20, 2007 I didn't have to mount this cyclometer myself, so I can't comment on that aspect. I've used it for two years without any problems, other than a learning curve on how to set it up and read it properly. Checking the time of day is tricky, can't replace the battery without losing all your info (not sure if others might have two batteries to prevent this). I may buy another one for the other bike since I know how to use it now.
Wonderful for the price! July 17, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I've owned this for over a year and have never had a problem. Some of the other reviews sound as if they were written by morons eg: "The instructions were written in twelve languages...geez." That's a good thing you dope...simply read the English, if you can. I just upgraded to the wireless version simply for vanity reasons (I didn't like the look of the wire wrapped around my fork) and, again, haven't had a problem. You can buy this and be happy with it.
Defective +++ March 15, 2007 2 out of 12 found this review helpful
It came with a dead battery, I got a fresh one, it checks at 3v with a DC voltmeter, but only parts of the digits turn on. Since I am in the Philippines now, returning it is economically impossible. BUT I can get some satisfaction by removing the battery and smashing the computer with a hammer!!!
