5 out of 5 stars This is a very nice baton!   February 12, 2008

This is a very nice baton! It is very good quality. It comes with a sheath, but it will also fit in a normal-sized pocket. Compacted it is a foam rubber handle that is 8 1/8 inches long. With a flick of your wrist, you have a 21 1/4 inch long sturdy, steel rod that's good for whacking the ever-loving bejeezus out of pretty much anything that doesn't have a handgun. I got it for my wife for when she goes jogging on mostly deserted nature trails.

When expanded, the pieces lock together pretty tight, so you'll need to jam it really hard in to a cement surface to compact it.

5 out of 5 stars As good as the ASP, half the price   February 8, 2008

I bought this product first and then the same one from ASP, which is the premium name brand. The only difference I can tell is in the grip; this one is more foamy and the ASP was more rubbery. Both were great, I think I might prefer the foam.

As far as effectiveness, this WILL do the trick. A good knock on the head could incapacitate someone. A good knock on the limb can render that limb useless. A good strike to a knife-wielding hand will eliminate the threat of a stab. This baton is very sturdy, and can be deployed quickly by a simple flick/swing.

The key to using a collapsible baton is to not think of it as a baseball bat where you are trying to hit a home run. Think of it as a tool for making multiple devastating (but usually not lethal) strikes in a short time frame, each one detracting from the ability of the attacker to harm you and each one having a good chance of ending the skirmish. It is very fast, has a decent range, and it will definately put a hurt on someone.

To really reap the benefit of this weapon, I recommend obtaining some training. The Phillipino martial arts of Kali/Escrima/Arnis are centered around stick fighting that is perfectly designed for a collapsible baton of this size (26").

3 out of 5 stars Works, not police-grade, may be illegal for you to own.   January 19, 2008

This product definitely works, but it is not of the quality professional security workers carry. Those cost at least 3 times as much. The case binds on the handle material, so don't expect a "fast draw". It's OK as a training tool- when out in public I carry better-quality products. In my state (and several others) common citizens may not legally own expandable batons. Responsible vendors will not ship these batons to states where the device is illegal, but this vendor shipped and didn't bother to check that I had the right to own. If you want to buy and carry one of these batons, be aware of local laws and consequences.

4 out of 5 stars works like it should   December 24, 2007

It's not an ASP but it works good and does what its made to do. The holster is not so great but I didn't use it anyway. Opens and closes easy, nice grip on handle.
