Sorry I bought this thing January 29, 2007 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
This thing has the clunkiest interface, and is the most troublesome to program, of any digital device I've ever encountered. What a royal pain to set up, by webpage wizards!!! Want to adjust something? First get online, then work your way through a bunch of circular wizard questions, none of which are appropriate, down load software updates repeatedly, keep at it for hours...Hate reading documentation? Don't worry, it doesn't come with any. After fighting this thing for 3 months, I did more careful research and bought a Universal Remote URC200--actually cost less...and what a difference! The URC200 is a very well-designed control. Both IR and RF functions are flawless. Easy to set up, easy to "learn" any command from any other remote (for example, it didn't come with a code for my Sanyo PLV-80 projector, but I was able to get it to learn ALL the Sanyo remote's commands -- like lens shift, input, focus, etc.-- in less than 3 minutes!) The optional base station works very well, but its antenna should not be too close (1 foot) to any component or DVI cables (otherwise it picks up spurious signals and blocks out the remote's RF transmissions). I use mine from 50 feet, through walls. What a refreshing change after the Logitech Harmony! I purchased mine as a set with the base station from B & H Photo online for 99.95.
Harmony 550 Universal Remote by Logitec January 28, 2007 This universal remote has web-based, updatable programing so purchasing a new piece of equipment doesn't make the unit obsolete. Excellent concept. The buttons are a little small, but the display is lighted and unit can operate some 15,000 different appliances. Programming the unit online is reasonably easy.
I purchased 3 units - one from Best Buys (to try it out) and two from Amazon (for much less money). The units run multiple pieces of equipment, some shared, some not, all with the same instructions (i.e. watch TV;listen to CD). On of the units failed. After trouble-shooting, Logitec replaced it within a week. Plan to purchase two more (so all 5 will be identical).

Despite Logitech's claims that it has a comprehensive online library of codes for many thousands of devices, there was no code for my very common Sony amplifier. I finally got the remote to work reasonably well, but it required four hours of fine-tuning its settings. There is a tech support line, but the wait time was horrendous, and they kept dropping my call.
If you are interested in buying this remote, it would be wise to call or write Logitech first to confirm that they have codes for each of your devices. Also, even when there is a code, it is necessary to reprogram the LCD display to make the most-used commands easily accessible.
I don't regret the purchase, but I would only recommend it to folks who have a lot of patience and fair degree of technical aptitude.
Awesome!!! January 26, 2007 I'd have to say that all my controller needs have been met. I needed a remote that would almost control everything in my room, it does the job. I love the fact that it works with my Xbox 360 as well. I love the black/blue color scheme too. A+++ Product.
Still not working, no hope that it ever will. January 26, 2007 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
Got this remote for the holidays, still not working. Have tried at least 10 times. Setup SEEMS easy, but then when using it in the real world, my devices go crazy. Every time is something different, things turning on and off wrong, different modes. We even tried eliminating our surround sound box, and only have a TV and cable box now. No good. Emailed customer service twice. No response. Called customer service, was on hold so long (>30 min) I gave up. I am a programmer, and I still can't get this to work. Seems like a complete waste of money. It looks cool though. Maybe it's just a prop from "Minority Report!"
