1 out of 5 stars Never worked...   February 8, 2007

As other reviewers have said, the software setup requires a little more than simply knowing the model number of the devices that one wants to control with the device. After spending a good deal of time installing the latest software and setting up the remote, there were a couple of issues with the remote. Some of the "activities" that I had set up were not working as programmed in the software. The "help" button located on the remote itself was practically useless as it asked the same question over and over without any changes to the activity. Finally, the remote would frequently "freeze" leaving no option but to remove the batteries to "reboot" the remote. After calling tech support and having the person that I talked to get confused over "component" and "device", I decided to pack it up and send it back to Amazon. Great concept, bad execution.

4 out of 5 stars Close to perfect remote   February 8, 2007

Good: Super easy to program. Good size- not too bulky, not too small. Good backlighting. Works with everything.

Bad: Could not remove programming software from my computer. Ocassionally got "out of sync" with my A/V equipment (seems OK now).

I was really impressed with how well this remote worked. The web interface for programming it works very well. Had no trouble at all programming my equipment in, and I have some oddball A/V equipment. There were a few buttons that weren't arranged the way I liked them, and it was easy to go back in and rearrange the buttons to where I wanted them. On a few occassions, the remote got out of sync with the equipment (thinking things were 'on' when they were actually 'off'), but it was easily fixed and seems fine now.
The only real problem I had, was when I decided to remove the software from my computer. No matter what I tried, it wouldn't uninstall. I finally had to reinstall Windows. But maybe it was just a glitch with my machine.
I've used it for three months now on the original batteries, and actually like using it more than any of the remotes that came with my A/V equipment. About the best all-in-one remote I've used. If I had to add one thing to the wish list, I'd say maybe a programmable timer to turn items on or off at certain times. Like when you have to have the cable box and the VCR on at the same time to record certain channels. Overall I'd say it's a great remote.

4 out of 5 stars Works as advertised...   February 8, 2007
Pros: Nice looking, good balance, easy to operate, easy to setup.
Cons: Volume and channel buttons are indistinct, not easily found by feel alone.

Overall, a very nice remote control. The S/W for configuring the remote worked quite well...it had database entries for all of the components in my bedroom setup (an older Samsung SIR-TS160 DirecTV set-top box, a new Sharp LC-46D62U Aquos LCD TV, and a new Samsung HT-Q70 Home-Theater-In-A-Box). The wizard-based setup was intuitive and straight-forward, though a little slow at times as it accessed the web-based database. I used the "activities" suggested by the wizard and also created another to watch TV using the TV sound instead of the AVR.

Most functions worked exactly as expected after the initial setup. I did have to tweek the volume repeat-rate a little to suit my tastes, moved a couple of functions/buttons around to make it match the original remote's layout, and had to "learn" the TV's menu-direction buttons as these were, apparently, incorrectly set in the Logitech database.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT REMOTE   February 4, 2007

I received this remote and within 1 hr. including reading the instructions I had it programed. I have a hd tv, sony a/v receiver, dvd player, dvd recorder, and a vcr. All worked as it should. Thoes who reviewed it and stated they were computer literate and could't get it to work need additional computer training, A novice should not have any problems if they read and proceed carefully. I am a NOVICE.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Product!   February 2, 2007
From its elegant looks to its easy of setup and use, I am a new fan of this remote. The software install and setup was a breeze, prompting you to input the make and model numbers of all your components you want to control and the software took care of the rest.

I have 7 AV components from the latest and the greatest to the ones that are 10+ years old (JVC VCR and Technics 5 disc CD changer). Harmony's database found ALL of them, including my new Motorola HDTV DVR cablebox. The "Activity" feature is a god sent, automatically switching my Sony HDTV's 7 inputs to accommodate whatever I want to watch or listen to. Press "Watch DVD", it turns on the TV, sets the correct input source, turns on the Receiver with correct input as well, turns on the DVD and automatically plays the movie. Press one button at the top of the remote and everything turns off. This feature was the reason why I got the remote and it works as advertised.

The whole process of fine tuning my components, including the initial setup took less than an hour. Logitech provides great online support for faqs and there is a manual for the remote when you click on "more help" from the Harmony application.

Yes, there are flaws such as small buttons, small screen with endless scrolls (depending on the component) among other things but it's a small price to pay to replace 7 remotes and being able to watch DVD, play games with surround sound, and other entertainment tasks with a singe click of a button.

Great product.
