Harmony 550 Review February 16, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Got the remote for $ 87/- shipped. Design wise I like it. Some of the buttons could have been bigger. Basic programming was a breeze. Had trouble with the tv going to the correct input for certain activities. After fiddling with it a week decided to call the tech support on a Saturday AM. Had to stay on hold for 45 mins and got through to a first tier support personnel. Let's just say I knew more about the remote than the the guy on the other line. Eventually got through to a very helpful AND knowledgeable person who resolved my issue and smoothed out the operation. Just as an FYI it is better to have discrete input selection buttons rather than the one that cycles thorugh all the inputs. I have the latter kind and that was what was causing the problem.
Very Pleased February 11, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The remote was received very fast and works great. I use it on my Samsung LCD, Pansonic DVD plaer, Xbox 360, and Motorala's HD PVR. Takes a few minutes of setup, but very easy and straight forward. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is a couple of minor things.
1. To change device you must push DEVICE the choose device ( I realize im being critical but logitech is usually up to the best standards in my book)
2. Volume and Channel buttions aren't raised like every other button on remote, also they a small, but still useable.
Harmony remotes are the best universal remotes February 11, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The Harmony remotes are wonderful. The 550 is perfect for my setup (HDTV, DVD/CD player, Set-top cable box/DVR, Audio receiver). The remote has simple buttons: Watch TV, Listen to Radio, Watch DVD, Play a CD. You program the remote by connecting it to your PC (in my case, a Mac) and through a fairly geeky process, set up the remote to match your components (Logitech has a huge database with info on every component known to man!). You'll need to tweak some settings but once you learn how, it's fairly easy. Once you're done, the Harmony remote replaces your coffee table full of remotes. Very liberating. Some of the buttons are a bit small but otherwise, I highly recommend these - the 550 particularly.
Nice remote February 11, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Works as well as the other Harmony remotes. I've owned 4 so far. I liked this one for the bedroom because its sqaure design makes it easy to find the play/fast forward/rewind buttons in the dark. Other Harmony remotes have these buttons in a center circular area, and they are hard to "feel" without looking.
Great Alternative to Juggling Remotes February 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Once you get it set up properly it is a joy to use. Getting it set up was a challenge due to some apparent problems it can have with Samsung. Customer service was very patient and helpful, although calling on a Saturday afternoon (probably not the best choice on my part) did require a long wait. Getting to first level tech support was brief, but I needed to get to the second level and that took a long time. Great news is you get to talk with an actual human being. Setting it up is not necessarily intuitive. It makes sense after you see the entire process but not necessarily your first time through. I highly recommend this product to retire your other remotes.
