Remote ok, software fatally flawed February 24, 2007 7 out of 13 found this review helpful
The software you use to program the remote requires you to log in every time you start it, and times out after a while, requiring you to log in again. If your internet connection is down, or if the website at the other end is down (happening right now as I type), you will NOT be able to program your remote!
overly complex, programming takes almost a day February 23, 2007 5 out of 13 found this review helpful
I programmed this remote three times. Each time it would work some functions and mess up others ... I could never get it quite right and I am extremely computer/tech savvy. As an example... it would insist on programming the TV to turn on when all I wanted to do was to listen to the CD player. The wizard based programming interface is really a mess and will require you to press buttons three times if you want to delete an item. Documentation is so poor that you end up trying different options and selections just to get to the feature that needs correcting. You can easily spend half a day programming the Harmony - time not well spent.
Great Bang for the Buck February 22, 2007 For what you pay, you get an amazing value. It took me about 15 minutes to pc program my Directv DVR, Hitachi HD Tv, Pioneer Receiver and Sony DVD player. I read some of these review so I was expecting something to go wrong, but everything worked perfect. Im glad to get rid of my collection of remotes. Also the remote itself feels like a quality piece of electronics. Also, if you can go without the "mute" and "previous" buttons, go with the cheaper 520 model. Its basically the same remote.
Worth every penny! February 22, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently upgraded to an HDTV home theater setup and before I wasted a lot of time trying to get all my new remotes talking to all my new components, I decided to investigate other options. I had no idea remotes like this even existed--what a fantastic and useful idea!!
The remote was easy to setup, required a few little tweaks to get it working JUST right (but the remote itself helps you through that). The software is intuitive and easy to use, and the remote is well balanced and very slick looking.
It does everything I need it to do, the only time I've gone back to my original remotes was when screwing around with device settings and menus (I'm sure this could be done with the Harmony, but all the 'special' buttons get buried in a menu, making it simpler to use the original for such setup tasks).
I am very pleased with this product, it has made life simpler, made using my new home theater system a breeze and left my coffee table clutter free.
Highly recommended (esp. here at Amazon--you can't beat the price!)
True universal remote February 22, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This remote allows you to use all the true features of the actual remotes it's replacing. It has worked great for me. I use it for my HDTV, HD DVD, TiVo, Receiver and iPod docking station. It takes a little time to set up, but it's worth it not to have to keep up with 6 different remotes and still be able to use all the features and functions of my entertainment system.
