Sony DVD player - first time user October 15, 2008 The long battery life is great, and the quality of the picture is first class. The swivel screen is great when two people are watching the movie. The only negative is that without using the remote control, you can't use the unit. Even the off/on depends on the remote.
Great DVD player, great deal. October 15, 2008 The picture is spectacular! Better than I expected even with all the other positive reviews. But just as I can turn up the brightness, contrast etc. on my software DVD player without messing with the computer monitor I wish I could turn up the brightness on this without turning up the backlight. I didn't even try it with the battery yet so I can't speak about battery life, but since that's rated at minimum brightness, I have to say that minimum brightness is so dim I can barely see what's on the screen even in almost total darkness, so that hardly counts. Other reviews said the sound was poor through its own tiny speakers though it could go loud, so that was no surprise. I listen with good headphones. I just wish it came with some sort of equalizer or even bass boost like all but the most basic portable MP3 players. I got it partly with the intention of viewing my many Jpeg files. It does fine with that, though it seems to be limited to somewhere under 300 subdirectories it can read through regardless of order or level. Anything beyond that doesn't get shown. That's far less than what I can get on a DVD and even less than on most of my CDs. All in all it's a really great unit, good enough to use around the house for serious viewing as well as for portable use.
As good as can be October 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Screen is fine, remote is a great bonus, battery lasts a long time. Here's my recommendation - if you have a small child who drives you insane during car trips, buy this NOW. Our 2 1/2 hour car trips to the country went from hair-pulling nightmares to relatively pleasant drives. The remote lets you play the same scene over and over without getting up.
Sony portable dvd player October 13, 2008 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
My husband gave me this player for Christmas since my old player had worn out (it was a non-name brand, but worked beautifully for years). This player is a big disappointment. It weighs a ton for one thing. I couldn't take it in my carry-on bag because it was so heavy. It also doesn't play DVD-R's at all, and it won't replay a regular DVD over again. Also, the sound without earphones is very tinny. I like to watch movies in bed, so earphones really didn't work well. Maybe I got a lemon. Anyway, I bought another player, a Zenith which I love. I didn't tell my husband, and I know he won't notice. I wouldn't hurt his feelings for the world!

I did a lot of research before choosing this model. What sold me were all the great reviews, and they were all right! It has great picture quality good sound quality and volume. The battery has great life, (approximately 6 hours ) and does not get hot when its on your lap. I would recommend this unit to my friends should they be looking for a solidly built Sony product. The only drawback is that it is a little heavy.
