I purchased this dvd player at the same time as my Sony Bravia 40 inch lcd tv. I was concerned about how regular dvd's would play, but was pleasantly suprised. This player makes regular dvd's look so good, some have almost the same high quality as a HD dvd. The true test was when I played several older movies. Black and white movies look crystal clear. And older movies on dvd that have not had the best digital restoration jobs done on them look spectacular. This one is a great buy.

I have had this for a week and am taking it back. works inconstantly with various rented discs. freezes on occasion when changing options in menu. opening the disc tray can take a minute or two. when it has worked some dvd's look outstanding and some just so-so. using it with a kdl-40v4100.
Great deal for the price. June 7, 2008
This was a great deal for the price. Both the player and the remote are wafer thin and light as a feather, but the picture is superb with our new Samsung HDTV.

I didn't expect the new generation of DVD players to be so compact. This unit takes up half the space of the one it replaces. And the "upscaling" feature makes a definite improvement in less-than-perfect recordings. You can't go wrong with this Sony. A bargain at twice the price.
