4 out of 5 stars So far, so good!   April 7, 2008

I have been searching for a GPS or viewfinder and saw this one for $183 (a month ago). Just couldn't pass it up and took a chance. The two negative reviews were both Mac people and that had me worried, as I am a Mac guy too. Happy to say that so far, so good for me. Software worked flawlessly. Yes, it was as easy to set-up and load as the other reviewers have said. The first time out I was worried. About the 11th hole and I started to get weird yardages - 700 and 800 yards to the green, etc. I turn it off and back on and it seemed to go back to normal. Had the same thing happen on one hole today, so I am thinking that it is a random occurance with the satellite and the stored yardages. All in all, I have been very pleased to this point.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product!   April 5, 2008
I love my GolfLogix!

I've used it four times and am constantly amazed at the accuracy......and it speeds up the game with no constantly checking for distance markers.

3 out of 5 stars Three and a half, actually   April 5, 2008

I've had this about two weeks. A few warnings: It is not easy to figure out exactly how the batteries load (quarter turn of the hoop on the battery cover) or exactly how the USB cable connects. The quick start guide is of almost no help with these items. I would suggest you download the PDF before trying to use this thing. Also, if you have Windows Vista, let Vista find and install the serial port driver. Make sure you have the driver in place, the batteries in the unit, and the USB/serial cable ready to go before you try to register your unit.

As for the unit, it gets lost sometimes. Several times, I've looked at the thing and it's giving me impossible yardages or telling me the hole I'm on is out of range. Generally it comes back, but at least one shot will be from an unknown (according to the Golflogix unit's impossible yardage report) distance. So, at that point, you're back to using course markers and pacing. Or fiddling with the unit, while your playing partners sigh.

Concerning updates. A couple of days after I received the unit, I requested a course. A week later, I have yet to see the course on the "find" list.

The good parts? The unit itself is small (about the size of an old "candy bar" cell phone) and very durable. It is an enormous help inside a hundred yards or when the pin is in the back of the green. It's also a great help from the rough, especially when you're really off-line. Knowing the yardage to front/middle/back is a true boon from a trouble lie.

The worst part? When it gets lost, it tells you to "scroll up," but when you do, it often "scrolls" to another stored golf course. It just takes too much fiddling with the thing at times to know that you're on the right hole on the right course. It's also pretty much useless for chipping or putting distance as it shows nothing but "<30," inside 30 yards.

So, it's worth the money, but it ain't exactly perfect.

This GPS unit works just as advertised, first batteries lasted for seven rounds. I'm very pleased with the units performance and presentation plus it was shipped promtly.
