Awesome November 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had this for a couple of months now and it works great... I use an encryption program with it - True Crypt - and this works well too. It is quick and secure.
I lost my last 8GB Usb drive and thats why I now encrypt all contents on all these type of devices... Losing it was like losing a wallet..
;)
Good speed, but too bulky for a MacBook Air November 7, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This flash drive is reasonably fast (especially if you copy one large file at a time), but its profile (i.e. the rubber casing surrounding the drive) is too thick for some USB connectors, such as that found on the MacBook Air (MBA). I found from the first time I used it on my MBA that there seemed to be some strain on the USB connector, and after about 40-50 uses, the MBA began to complain that it couldn't communicate with the drive.
In summary: if you have a USB connector that is easily accessible, this flash drive should work well, but it has a limited lifetime for small spaces.
Good build quality and very slow speeds November 7, 2008 The 16GB stick has enough space. However, I have been using this for 2 weeks and the speeds are very very crappy. Write speeds are some times < 1MB/s and read speed are 5MB/S. Dunno if all the pieces are this bad or I ended up with a lemon. Check out other models.
Ths speeds mane this a NO BUY for me
Yep, it's a Flash Drive... November 5, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
What's to say? It's a flash drive that holds up to 8GB (7.54GB actual storage). I have no qualms about the transfer speeds, so I'd say that the flash storage aspects of this product are great.
It's a little bulky, what with the rubber casing and all, but that doesn't really bother me; I actually like the uniqueness when compared with my SanDisk Cruzers and other tiny, personality-less flash drives. Not that "personality" is what I look for in a flash drive, but when they're a dime a dozen, a flash of color doesn't hurt anyone. Mine also came with a USB extension cable, just in case your USB ports are too close together for another USB device to plug in next to it.
My only real qualm is with the rubber cap; it relies solely on rubber-to-metal friction to stay on, so over time it becomes loose. I'm debating using a piece of thread or something to tie the cap to the body of the flash drive; otherwise, I could see myself losing it.
If I had it to do over again, I'd probably hold out for a 16GB or 32GB drive before buying something so bulky. However, it is what it is, and it does a good job at it.
Don't count on the rebate November 3, 2008 The product works fine, but the reason I chose this manufacturer was that a $15 mail in rebate advertised on Amazon made it cheaper than a competitor. Attempts to contact the company for the rebate have been unsuccessful.
Online you can check the status of your rebate submission at http://corsairmemory.status-now.com/, but they require information sent to you in e-mail correspondence. However, there is no e-mail address to send the initial inquiry to, only a phone number that they don't answer. I left a message to have them contact me 3 days ago and have not been contacted.
Don't believe the rebate hype. It may be possible to get the rebate, but I believe they are counting on making the process so onerous that most give up on it.
