5 out of 5 stars I'm Hooked!   November 15, 2008

I'm new to Kindle and haven't even begun to discover all the bells and whistles on my new Kindle. BUT I LOVE IT! DH gave it to me as an early Christmas gift because I would be traveling and he thought I could use it! Within minutes of the battery being fully charged I had several books downloaded and have read 2 of them. I've subscribed to my local newspaper. It's easy, it's almost self explanatory. And I am by no means a technical kind of person. I want things to be "logical" and the instructions to make sense so I can remember them for the next time. Kindle does that. I love that I no longer have to "waste" paper with books (I know this seems like a sacrilege for someone that used to own a bookstore!). But it's true. If you are an avid reader like I am, your shelves are already overflowing. Kindle will help solve that problem! Cannot recommend this any higher!

5 out of 5 stars Super cool book reader   November 15, 2008

Love to read books and was skeptical about buying the Kindle. Haven't regretted it one bit. Enjoy the ease in buying books and reading them in bed or work or anywhere. Much smaller and lighter than a book and fits anywhere. Only thing I miss is being able to share the book with friends.

5 out of 5 stars Can't wait to read!   November 15, 2008

My husband, and I, have books everywhere; they stand two feet tall on our nightstands, we have overflowing bookshelves, and it's a real pain to take the "liked but not that much" books to the Goodwill store.

Because I love "gadgets," I was tempted by the Kindle for a long time. My fear was that I would miss holding a book, turning the pages, etc.

I finally ordered a Kindle, and was afraid to try it. :) I hoped that I hadn't spent good money on something that wasn't for me.

Well, after twenty minutes of using my Kindle, I was hooked. I did have a problem with the buttons, but only at first. I hold the book down low, very easy, by the way. It's like playing a video game, lightweight and hand-comfortable.

The dictionary is a brilliant addition. I've looked up more words the past two months than in the past year of reading. (Too much trouble to grab the dictionary in the middle of a good story.)

The wireless downloads...can't say enough.

I figure that I will pay for the initial cost of my Kindle in 6 months.

Don't hesitate, buy yourself a Kindle. You deserve it!

3 out of 5 stars Needs Design Change   November 14, 2008

I borrowed one from a friend to try it out. Loved everything except the physical design. The case needs to be designed to be held higher up the sides. The paging buttons can be much smaller (closer to the top) with only one on each side - "next page" on right and "previous page" on left. If the hands are wrapped around the sides, the thumb can be used easily for paging. I would love to have one, but will not buy unless and until it is more comfortable to hold for a long period. I was impressed with the download speed and accessibility. We are in a rugged mountain area where ordinary cell phone coverage is spotty.

5 out of 5 stars I love this thing!   November 14, 2008

I absolutely love my new Kindle. At first I was a little concerned, because I live in an area that doesn't get the superfast connection. I connect wirelessly through the slower "1x" connection. I can't imagine how much faster it could it be. I subscribe to the Atlanta Journal Constitution and it takes about five seconds to show up in the morning. I also pre ordered the new Stephen King book and on the morning it was supposed to arrive, it downloaded in about 10-15 seconds. No more getting up at the crack of dawn to drive to the bookstore for a book I've been anxiously awaiting. The screen is really easy on my eyes and there is almost no glare, just a little if I try to use a book light. I saw a lot of people on here complaining about accidentally hitting the next page button all the time, but I have had no problem with that. I also seem to be among the minority who has no problems with the cover that comes with it. I find that leaving the kindle in its protective cover to read is almost the same as holding a paperback. I love the fact that it has a built in dictionary because I'm always having to stop and look up words when I read. The Kindle makes this super easy and fast because you can just scroll and click "look up" and when you've got your definition, it goes right back to the page you were on. I completely reccomend it. Since it's portable, and has tons of room for books, it makes reading easier and more accessible than ever. I no longer have an excuse to start reading a book and leave it unfinished.
