5 out of 5 stars Pleased   August 3, 2008
Bought this item at Modell's a week ago for $34.00. The instructions weren't the clearest but it took me less than a 1/2 hr. to put together.
I'm assuming that they corrected the nuts and screws problem because mine fit without a hitch. Although it uses include push-ups and sit-ups I only use it for chin-ups and pull ups.
The 1st doorway I tried it on was unsucessful due to the frame not protuding far enough, the 2nd door too narrow due to a wall being near the door, my 3rd attempt was a perfect fit and as long as your movements are slow and deliberate you'll be safe. I wiegh 200 lbs. and it worked for me perfectly.

So,if you purchase this item make sure that you measure your doorway width and check that the frame extends at least a 1/2" from the wall.
Overall a very good, inexpensive product especially when compared with very similar items that cost almost twice as much if not more.

4 out of 5 stars Everlast Chinning Bar works well after tricky assembly   July 28, 2008
I am happy with my purchase of the Everlast Chinning Bar. The Bar seems sturdy with no hint of failure while supporting my 200lbs. I paid $30 at the local Academy Store and thought the value was good. I am satisfied with the Everlast and the ease of the bar's temporary installation that its design provides.

I do have a couple of couple of minor complaints. The assembly instructions were not the best, but after 30 minutes or so, i eventually figured it out. The plastic PVC Caps for the Nuts are too small and will not stay on. The sand paper strip on the Wooden Strip and mounts over the door frame could scratch the paint. They should have used rubber instead of sandpaper.

I would purchase the Everlast again based upon the $30 price, sturdiness, and functionality.

3 out of 5 stars Parts missing!   July 23, 2008
Although the item arrived on time and in good condition, like other buyers, pertinent parts were missing (bolts, etc.). Rather than go through the hassle of sending back the product, I am hoping to find these parts at my local hardware store. A friend of mine has the same chinning bar (with all the parts, obviously) and so far, it is excellent, particularly for the P90X workouts.

5 out of 5 stars This item rocks   July 22, 2008

People People People, I have read many negative reviews about this product, and it looks like the common complaint is that its not stable, maybe you all might want to try using a vise grip to fasten the screws, and trust me you will never slip off again....using your hand to tighten the screws "Not Smart" .......The screws do go all the way down TRY IT !!
I have been bodybuilding for 7 years......Results.....Priceless
THIS ITEM ROCKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSS

2 out of 5 stars Could Be Better...   July 15, 2008
After opening the box and counting the bolts, I was missing a few. Not sure where they had gone. It seems the were loosely packed so perhaps they fell out of the flimsy box.

Lucky I have some nuts/bolts/washers laying in my toolbox and they seem to fit.

This bas is definitely NOT for small door frames! If your door is under 26" in width, then this would not work. My door happen to be 24" in width. I live in a studio apartment so the only door I have if the bathroom door. I would use the entrance but then people would be walking by and watching me work out.

Also, the foam pads wore off on the 2nd set of chin-ups. I basically had metal chaffing onto my door frame.

The bar creaks like it wasn't made to last. I weigh in at almost 200 lbs. and I'm afraid the bar might give at any moment.

I'll give this bar another 6 months before it'll finally break on me...
