3 out of 5 stars Good Writing   November 14, 2008
The Shack, by William P. Young is good reading. However to call it the next "Pilgrims Progress," I don't think so. Mr. Young is a good wordsmith, The Shack is a good story, but reader beware, this is not Gospel. There is truth in the story, but the story is fiction.
I owned and have read, The Shack. I have given my copy away because I don't intend on reading it again.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Exactly the Kind of Person I Believe God to Be (based on 30 years of SERIOUS study of the Word)   November 14, 2008

The Shack has one of the most beautiful depictions and explanations of God's love and character that I have ever read. I have read many terribly negative reviews on Amazon.com, stating it is "New Age", "biblically and theologically incorrect", and even "heretical", yet I find it to be on-spot in its depiction of God's unconditional love for ALL his children (yes, even the most heinous, lost ones), his willingness to condescend to whatever level to reach us, and his pursuing us beyond all hope, to win us back to RELATIONSHIP with him--which is what heals us to eternal salvation.

Is The Shack perfect? That is reserved only for God's Word. But the author was clearly in touch with the Holy Spirit. How he penned such incredible "conversations" with God is beyond me. While I was drawn into the obvious fantasy of my childhood delight of Lyman Frank Baum's Oz series of books, I could almost be convinced that this work of fantastic fiction truly did occur. That is how much I believe God WOULD do and say, God DOES feel and think, God IS exactly as he is portrayed in The Shack.

Very slow and disappointing. Not necessarily poorly written but the subject matter was far fetched. I do not recommend it.

Engaging in story and thought. Brings new perspective to God and the dynamics of the Trinity with humor and insight. A must read for a seeker.

I am not yet finished with the book but it is an excellent read so far. It has challenged my thoughts of who God is in every sense. I would not have believed that I was putting God in a box until I started to read this book. This book can be a challenge to any one who reads it, to see God in a different light.
