1 out of 5 stars Errant theology and emotional manipulation   April 3, 2008
11 out of 19 found this review helpful

The Shack tells a good story, using theology that is inconsistent with the Bible. It gets the reader to accept this errant theology by means of emotional manipulation.

Clearly, this book is misleading many people. To me, it's not any different than The DaVinci Code, in that regard. As for the story itself, it's a page-turner, and I was sobbing throughout the whole thing. The bigger issue is that I felt emotionally manipulated into going along with certain "truths" presented in the book for the sake of the story. Manipulation is not a quality of truth - it is a quality of control and deception.

I would only recommend this book with a great big huge grain of salt that could melt the snow off a highway. Read with caution, and make sure you study the Biblical qualities of God beforehand. Remember, HE is holy. Remember what that means. Then get ready for a tear jerker.

5 out of 5 stars Shocked to be undone   April 3, 2008

This book was rather shocking initially, but I was soon undone by the love and compassion. I've ordered many copies for family and friends. And I"m eagerly awaiting their responses.

5 out of 5 stars The opened heart and soul   April 2, 2008

I have just finished "The Shack." How amazing! I cannot recommend it more highly than five stars. I would give it six if I could. How glorious if each reader would open his/her heart and soul!
