5 out of 5 stars Best Book on Scoring and Playing with Confidence   August 21, 2006
I am a low handicap golfer who grinds to shoot in the low 70's. Typically, I hit 7-8 greens in regulation. After reading Floyd's book, I played a round and hit 14 greens in regulation. The next round I played in a vicious wind and shot 77. Better than scoring low, these were the two most comfortable rounds I've ever played.

Mr. Floyd's advice is about scoring. There is little about swing mechanics. I will read the first five chapters over and over. After reading these chapters, my mind is calm and clear. If I take this mindset to the course, I am fully confident that I will play my best golf that day.

I own over 40 books on golf. This book is at the top of my list. If I had this book when I was learning the game, I feel I would have saved years in lowering my score. Follow Mr. Floyd's advice and lower your score.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful   March 12, 2006

Floyd is still one of the best chippers and shot gamers in golf. The PGA pros when interviewed say the same thing. He has a lot to share and much of it is "tough love" to us amateurs--don't over-club, be realistic with your average distance not your best distance etc. He is a very clever golf course manager and it shows in his advice. His description of his early days when he was a risk-taker and losing, while trying to be like Arnie, was very interesting. Once he decided to manage his risks around the course and be himself he became a big winner. This would certainly not be the first book for a beginner (you first need to learn to swing) but this should be a fairly early addition if you want to score well.

2 out of 5 stars improve your score   February 20, 2006

The book seems to be geared more to the single digit handicapper rather than a high handicapper. I find the book dated and the author to be patting himself on the back too often.

5 out of 5 stars Teaches how to think during a round of golf   June 17, 2004

If you are someone who tries to smoke the driver down the middle on every tee, you NEED this book. Excellent advice on course management and mental/emotional control. Applying his ideas has increased my confidence on the course significantly and lowered my scores by about 3 strokes. It's made golf more fun. An easy read. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A must for mastering course management!   October 6, 2003

The knowledge in this book is a must for golfers of all skill levels! The bottom line is scoring...plain and simple! I shoot in the low 80's but with the reading of this book I can break 80 fairly often now! Don't get me wrong this book is not just for the advanced it is also a must for the begginer! Its all about knowing your game and applying it to the course that you are faced with! As easy as this sounds it is amazing just how many of us don't do it!
