5 out of 5 stars Love Ben Hogan and Great Book   January 6, 2008
I played golf back in the 40's and 50's and followed
Ben Hogan's career and tried to emulate his style of
play and his great passion for the game. I received
this book as a Christmas present recently and plan
on using it as a refresher course to get my game
back on track.

Thanks to my grandson and Ben Hogan I might be able
to shave a few strokes off of my game.

5 out of 5 stars The ONLY ** MUST READ ** book for golfers.   December 18, 2007
Let's keep this simple:

ANYONE WHO WANTS TO UNDERSTAND THE GAME OF GOLF FROM THE GROUND UP AND BE THE BEST GOLFER HE OR SHE CAN BE *** MUST *** READ THIS BOOK.

It's that simple. I've golfed for 20 yrs and had this book just laying around for the last 4 years before I sat down and really really read and absorbed everything (which was only about 1 month ago) that Mr. Hogan was willing to share.

I truly feel that I wasted 4 years of quality golfing by letting this little gem just sit and collect dust. ** IDIOT ** Had I been made to read this thing 20 yrs ago I am sure that I would be playing to scratch golf today (instead of my +11 handicap).

And maybe its because I've played so long that I can now grasp Hogan's concepts a bit easier, and it does take a bit of an effort to get through some of the dated writing but it is worth it. After reading his book I hit more fairways and greens than ever.

Mr. Hogan's teaching is complete for the basic swing. I've paid for maybe 100 lessons in my life (at $50 a clip) and they came nowhere near the detail Mr. Hogan does. And all for $10.

Hogan maps out what is involved to create and own a REPEATABLE SWING, which is the goal of any golfer regardless of age or ability.

Very simple.
1. Buy the book. Dont let its simplicity and the lack of color photos mislead you. It is the best book out there.

2. Read and re-read the book. It takes time to translate the printed word to something that is actionable on the course.

3. Take your time. It will NOT come quickly, but once you understand and are able to implement the FIVE LESSONS you will OWN them for life.

Most teachers IGNORE how the downswing starts, addressing where the right elbow needs to be, the position/role of the left wrist at impact, which fingers help your swing, which fingers will kill your swing. (READ THE BOOK FOR THE ANSWERS)

Hogan truly believed that the average golfer could get to 80 or under with proper instructions. I am a testament to that belief.

I wish I had the chance to thank him.

5 out of 5 stars Simple   December 17, 2007
It's amazing that the simplicity of Hogan's lessons converts to a large improvement in your golf game. Great book.

5 out of 5 stars Very easy to read, good drawings and practicing tips   December 8, 2007
This book is very easy to read and the drawings are very helpful so you can know exactly what the author is talking about and practice it.

I started playing golf several months ago, it looked really easy but once you start practicing you notice that is not that easy to make a good shot every time. This book can teach you, step by step, how to develop that consistent and repetitive swing that will help to improve your game and enjoy it more and more every time you play.

5 out of 5 stars 5 Lessons   November 23, 2007
I had the paperback , but wanted the Hard Cover . Book was new as advertized and in excellent condition.
