5 out of 5 stars Excellent for stretching   August 25, 2008
I developed heel pain from running and knew that I need to stretch my calf muscles. Although you can easily do so without the ProStretch, I can feel more of a stretch when I use this device. With practice I could probably do the same thing on my own, but I have a busy schedule and like that this device easily ensures a good stretch. I use it several times a day.

5 out of 5 stars HAVE HAD MINE ABOUT 30 YEARS I THINK...   August 13, 2008
I started running distance events in 1971 and somewhere way back then I picked up a PROSTRETCH to help with stretching. Although my distance running days ended in the late 80's, over the years, like now as I write this review, I have had to return to using it regularly when I had over-stressed my arches.

--This time that was caused by a combination of a lot of long walks on concrete and a lot of wearing some really comfortable slides that, unfortunately, do not provide very good arch support.

It goes without saying that I am an extreme fan of this ingenious little device; what I'd like to do is offer some comments on OTHER comments on it.

1) There is a study online [KUZMA & McNEIL, UW-L, 2005] in which the researchers concluded that the PROSTRETCH device is no better than static or incline board stretching. My own experience and the overwhelmingly positive reviews here at Amazon would suggest otherwise.

2) At least one reviewer here asserts that he or she was injured by using the PROSTRETCH. I can see where this would easily happen if one did not STRICTLY follow the instructions in the user's manual which CLEARLY state that one should not stretch too fast or too far.

3) These devices are built to last; I'd say that in normal usage they will easily outlive the original purchaser. IOW, they are a classic device that you may just hand down to your grandkids.

4) Lastly, and this is sort of a minor point but one that needs addressing IMO, I don't know if the present units come with the very hi-quality heavy-duty rubberized strips on the bottom. On mine these are 1/2" wide by 10.25" long by 1/8" deep. I have found them to be sufficient for using the device safely on hardwood floors. It would be nice to know if other users have also found them to be sufficient. We - wife & I - use the device on hardwood floors or carpet/rugs only - not outdoors - as we don't want to damage the rubber strips.

Recommend without reservation to reasonably discerning people.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome. Curing my pain. Never woulda believed it.   June 4, 2008
This little doohickey is fantastic. I'm in my 30s and have fabulous shoes I haven't been wearing the past few months because of increasing pain in my left heel. The first few times I used this the pain actually was worse for the day, one time so much I wanted to hop around on one foot, but now it's been a week and I have SIGNIFICANT improvement in my pain. I'm even eyeing my red heels again. A few more weeks and I should be ready to wear them!

1 out of 5 stars Could be dangerous   June 1, 2008
I've seen this product recommended in a running book so decided to give it a try. After first careful use the bottom of my feet are burning and my metatarsals are extremely tender. Now my left Achilles tendon area has a slight rip constantly and is somewhat numb. I didn't go crazy on this and was very careful. This product is not for everyone.

4 out of 5 stars Seems to work a little bit   May 30, 2008
This seems to work a bit, but it's not full relief as I was expecting (and I use it a few times a day- every day).
